ATI Tweaks?
Just wondered ( being a new comer to the ATI dark-side ) if their are any tweaks to get a little more performance from ATI cards? like NV cards get a massive boost with AA and AF off, just wondered if there were any similar things for ATI or not :)
cheers all :)

Dont know what drivers you are using. But the Omega drivers are meant to be very good at tweaking.
NV cards dont get a massive performance boost with AA + AF off, as they cant really run it in the first place. That is really just turning graphics down, like lowering the resolution to 800x600 or something....
Have/are you going to overclock? as that will give lots more performance, also what card is it (9600/pro/XT, 9800/pro/XT etc)

You will still see a performance increase with AA or AF disabled as you would expect from any card, although the earlier nv cards (GF3,4) had a massive increase with those settings disabled, I think with the FX series the margin is somewhat similar to the Radeons.
If you get rage3d tweak (rage3d.com) it gives you a HTML guide of all the tweakable settings, what they do (in english not jargon) and wheather they would increase or decrease performance.
EDIT: Just to follow from blockers post, the omega drivers are tweaked here and there, and tend to be a bit better in actual games, rather than this 3Dmark stuff ;)

im using the 3.10 drivers ( cats? i think? )
Asus 9800XT, oc'd a little already, but i need to sort out another intake fan before i do much more :) gonna cut 120mm in the bottom of the case. Dont fancy taking the HSF off it yet, its too new/expensive/nice/shiny to do that atm :)
ill check out the Rage thing and the Omega drivers, cheers :)

Rage3d tweak.
Play around with the settings in that.

just got omega drivers and have to say they abit disapointing, stuff runs slower, X2 is noticable. and about 300-500 less 2k3 3dmarks :( gonna put the 3.10's back on tomorrow, will try rage thing to then

Rage 3d tweak is quite useful.:)

omega drivers have visual improvements and imo are nicer anyway.
apparently the 3.6/7's(?) were the fastest recent ones though prev ones were almost/are faster but have loads of bugs.
tbh just run it at 6xaa 16xaf with the games options on max in 1600*1200 with omega drivers and every game ive played recently runs fine (mp2, il2fb, x2 etc..)
X2 is a lot more processor hungry than gfx. my heavly clocked 9700 doesnt get THAT much more fps than my brothers STOCK ti4400 and hes also got slightly slower cpu
300 3dm2k1 isnt enuf to compain about tbh - unless you restard and make sure all programs are closed and everything was how it was when you last benched, it oculd eaasly e 500 difference. 5003md2k1 is about 1fps aswell....

read again, thats 2k3 marks. not 2k1 :p
and every thing was shut, right after a reboot
