    Budget Card Upgrade

    Hello All,

Wondering if any of y'all could help. In the spare rig I built for my brother in law, it currently contains my old Galaxy 6600 GT, which was great in its day.

Hes emailed me today and says that he can get a ATI 9200 256mb for £25. I dont think that this is better than the 6600GT for gaming, but I would like to go back to him with options.

I'm slightly more up to date with mid/high end or the range, as thats where I would (want to) upgrade, but what would now be the best replacement to be able to game ok at 1280 x 1024?

I dont want to top £100 really, but options would be good. For some reason I have the 7600 GS in my mind - i believe that was a good bang per buck card.

One final fly in the ointment - its and AGP card...

    Any help much appreciated

    JP

    7600gs/gt is a good card for around £60 -£80

For ATi you could get this for the whole £100

Yup, 7600GS / GT is your best bet probably.

Cool, thanks for the help - I'll run those options by him to see how much he really wants to splash out.

7600gt is apparently the best in the sub 100 range.

    I know there are 1950 Pro's using AGP, but I think they're still priced over a 100.

Scan do the Palit 7600GT AGP version for 83 quid:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=530761

From my experience a 7600GT is 30% faster than a 6800GT which itself 30% faster than a 6600GT in most games and benchmarks!!

Palit also make a 7600GS AGP which costs around 70 quid also from Scan:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=479171

A 7600GS is around the same speed as a 6800GT at lower resolutions.

However the best bang for the buck maybe the Palit 7300GT DDR3 AGP which gives the 7600GS a good run for its money!! Unlike the normal 7300GT this has faster DDR3 memory and costs around 8 quid less too:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=557236

Many people have overclocked the memory of the PCI-E version of this card to around 1.4ghz too!!

Here are some reviews of similiar PCI-E versions of the 7300GT DDR3:
