My trusty 17" sony trintron crt is finally giving up the ghost and I'd like to replace it with a 20" widescreen.
Budget is £200 give or take a few ££. Principally it will be used for gaming powered by a x1800xt.
I like the samsung SM204BW (and the 205 model). Are there any others in this price range that others recommend or have good experiences with?
Is the dell e207wfp as good as the samsung?

Try this one LG L226WT, only a little bit over £200 and it's 22" with a good reputation from what I've read.
I agree with Lucio, the LG is known to be very good - on a par with the Samsung 226BW. You won't be disappointed. :)

First thing to note is that the LG 226 isnt a rebadged Sammy 226, but the older version 225 :)
If your looking for a 20" Dell 2007wfp can be had for £220 :)
Im choosing between the Dell and the new Sammy 226 cannot decide between 20 and 22 inches :(

Decided to go with the Dell for Quality panel over extra 2" :) and got it for bargain price!
Where? I really want this monitor. Been waiting for a good price on the 206 but it just wasn't happening.
Dell 2007wfp AO3 (with S-IPS) panel can be had for £227 inc VAT but i dont know about postage as im going to pick mine up.
The only thing is its a cancelled order, which means its never gone out to a customer, but isnt "retail" per se.

I have two 19" dells and i feel that replacing them with just a 20" widescreen wouldnt do the deskspace justice. 22" maybe even 24"

Try getting the larger version of my brand new Samsung SM940BW - mine's a 19", it has a rotatable base AND you can move the screen in the vertical axis too, which is very cool! Means you can make space for a speaker underneath :D Colour reproduction is ace, low grey to grey time (4ms), no dead pixels (always nice), it's so bright and white reproduction is great. I have the silver model but still, it's very unintrusive. Small bezel. Blue backlight to the small power button when it's on (buttons are almost in the exactly the same place as the dell widescreens). You can get this monitor in black too, but they seem to be hard to find.
I paid something like £107 excl. VAT for mine - total bargain. There has to be a 20" model for only a little more - I was actually looking at a dell 20" widescreen, but it was just too much for my budget (student loan time too!) but this sammy will do VERY nicely.
The thing I like about this samsung is that it'll do HDCP over DVI (and it's one of the things that made me go for it over another model which might have dvi but just plain old dvi) - nice to know you're futureproofed! and samsungs seem to get consistently good reviews.
The widescreen Samsung flatpanel TV my parents have in their kitchen is also equally as good - in fact, I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same panel in both our sets!
