    Will A Ati Demo Be Ok On A Fx5900

    OK GUYS HERE WE GO

    went and had a browse in the computer world today with my little 6 year old and he seen that chimp on a demo machine which obviously has a ati card in it

    now he wants me to get it on my comp

    i have a winfast fx5900 would there be any probs doing this,i mean do ati put special proggys in there so it wont run or itll do my gfx card in

    any help please lol

    wont hurt to try ... iirc all the nvidia demos run much better (ie faster) with ATI cards, so i would've thought nvidia cards should be able to run ATI demos, but at worst it wont run, just try it and see

    it depends.

    iirc the nvidia dawn demo was using opengl - this allowed them to prevent ati cards runnign it as opengl doesnt have standardised shader functions yet (ver2 of opengl should though). this means each company makes there own opengl extensions to use the shaders. ati cards can only run the dawn demo because of a wrapper program which converts the code to let ati cards work in it.
    if ati demos are done in d3d they should definatly work, but may look wrong and or run slowley. if they are opengl theres not much chance...
    theres no harm in trying it it wont reak your gfx or anything...

    rofl, i bet ATI does run nvidia demos better

    well answer is yep it ran fine and dandy no slowdown and look muh better than that dawn girl
