    EVGA wonder

I'm just curious but... what happens to those card that are sent in for step up? There must be a loads of them you see. Do EVGA refurb them and sell those cars again to the public? ...Or do they sell them to big companies such as Dell in bulk? Or is it like stuffs at EVGA are offered them for a real cheap price? Or do they simply become doorstoppers at EVGA office? Which is most likely do you think?

RMA I see. But they must be controlling the amount of their cards that are on the market to avoid price fall so maybe they just keep some for RMA and trash the rest? They already make good profit out of step up program, right?

it would be interesting to know what % actually take up the step up programme - I suspect that it's not that large.
& of course you can only stepup once & then you have to buy a new card at retail again.

Hmm I thought majority of people buy EVGA for step up program in mind. Therefore I thought there must be a garage full of returned graphic cards in their office, hehe.

Most companies need to keep a stockpile of cards for a few years for RMA's. So my money would be on them getting put in that pile.

Funny thing is everyone is trading in thier card for better model so they must have tons of low/mid range card stocks already but they are alway run short of top range cards. Just a guess though

people who buy the top range card often step up to the next top of the range card so they end up on the pile too.

Good point. But not many people can afford top of the range card so number must be low? But in reality it must be those top range models that they'd like to stock more you see, because usually they are more troublesome because of the extra heat they produce. Low/mid range model on the otherhand are usually more robust so probably return rate is much lower therefore they probably won't need much stock?

Basically if EVGA were losing too much from doing it then they would have stopped by now, they must put them to some good use.

Indeed I'm just so curious to know how thier stepup mechanism work bcause it's quite unique. Good from consumer point of view, but might be little hard to maintain from producer's view.

I wouldve thought that 'stepped-up' cards are kept and then sent out as replacements for RMA's.

Yes, that is most likely possibility. BTW if my memory serves me right, you've actually went through this stepup program to get your 8800GTS right? Did it go smoothly? Did they crossship you..or did you have to wait until they examine your card?

Nope...I bought this one out-right. Then as soon as it arrived i applied for the Step_up on EVGA website.

I am at the top of the list now so i have just sent the card to Germany (£11) and they will send me out a brand new 8800GTX 786mb within 3 days of receiving my old one.

The reason i bought the 320mb is:

    eVGA 8800GTS Superclocked 320mb cost = £217 from Scan
    eVGA 8800GTX Superclocked 768mb cost = £440 from Scan

    Step up from 320mb to 768mb cost = 92 euros(£62.52)
Postage to Germany = £11 tracked

Total cost for step up = £73.52

Difference in Uk between the cards = £213

I know its a long way around it but when the new card arrives i have saved myself near on £140.

I'd say that was pretty good wouldnt you

No they dont cross-ship in Europe.
Also, they ask for evidence of the ID sticker on the card in photo form and also ask for the original receipt by fax/email BEFORE they accept the Step-Up. I provided all this and it was accepted.
