    Gateway monitors - anyone used?

    http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.200-2436.aspx

this is the 24inch monitor that gateway have, and it seems to be fantastic on paper. however it only has 1year warranty, and even this is not a next-day-swap-out.

so, should i get this or spend the £150 more on the dell 24inch TFT?

Gateway are still big in the states aren't they?

I jus seem to remember them going bust in the UK - so all their infrastructure is likely to either on the continent or the US, meaning long RMA times...

they have offices and stuff in the UK too - its just that technically their monitor does blow the dell one into the dust - better contrast, lower response time, more connectivity, true 1:1, and some weird color enhancement thing too.

Hmmm just read all of its specs..It is actually a really good deal..a sort of perfectly honed 2407wfp (assuming the picture is as good) Dell's never have thier whole story told by specs you need to compare the actual pictures to be honest.

I would actually get that over the 2407wfp though..very good deal.

Specs mean very little with monitors though. According to the specs, this Viewsonic I'm using at work would blow my Dell at home into the weeds... but it doesn't. Not even slightly.

It doesn't help that half the manufacturers use different ways of grading their specs.

The only complaints I could find on google (although these related to the 20" screen) against gateway monitors, is the some people noticed that the shades of black changed noticably if you moved, other than that, our American cousins seem to really like them.

edit: If you do get one, let us know if you like/dislike it.

yeah im thinking about it, but after the old days when i purchased an iiyama monitor that had (for then) revolutionary 3y next business day onsite swap-out super-duper-warranty in the price, i dont know if i can justify that sort of spend with so little warranty.

i dont know how TESCO's warranty is like, and although people usually say it is waste of time, if im spending this sort of cash (and it is a lot of money), then i need to have it replaced for me instantly (like dell do).

Well TESCO's with have to honour the warranty but they will probably be buggers about it and they are only a middle man probably like pc world and staples etc... They will most likely have to get it tested by Gateway blah blah..

With the 3 year warranty its costing about £30 less than the dell is on scan.. and you only really gain an extra component input (unless you really need two).

The dells are tried, tested and loved by everyone who has one..plus the service is instant as you say. For peace of mind i'd go the dell route.

But if you dare to be different and possibly get shafted lol..get the Gateway

only you can decide if you wish to take a punt or not. Sounds to me that you are trying to talk yourself out of buying the gateway, due to the warranty, so do yourself a favour and buy the dell. I know a couple of people who have brought the dell and had to have it replaced under the warranty, and were very impressed by the sevice recieved.

The dell's a good choice, as stated above, it's known territory, in theory buying from tescos (or anyother s/market) should be no different, they're fine for replacing a can of beans but you are talking a reasonable layout of cash, if you decide you want to risk it, then fine.
