Need your opinions please

Hi,

I have the opportunity to buy a Dell 2005fpw off a mate for £130. Do you think it's worth it? He doesn't have a receipt so there's no warranty, and there's no box.

I'd be upgrading from a 17" ws Sony LCD, so do you think the upgrade is a good idea? the pixels at the mo are 1280x768 - not particularly big.

Please let me know what you think guys, Tim

Your PC spec will cope with it, though I'd be worried about the no warranty with it.

If that doesn't really bother you, then go for it :)

you deffinatly need a bigger screen for that GTX..it begging for it. Is that a 20"?

You could get that or save towards something even bigger.

haha I should hope it would cope with it! That's my main issue really - the lack of a warranty. It's a year and a half old so I was sorta worried that the pixels might start sticking.

2005 is the previous gen to the 2007, and yes, is a 20", 1680x1050 res screen.

They were also famous for backlight bleed - set it to show entirely black and see if it suffers from it. Also, check the revision number on the back, google it, and it will tell you some of the common issues associated with that revision of the screen.

Yeah it's a 20" 1680x1050, it's the model that came before yours. The main things I was worried about was the warranty- how much of a problem do you think that is?

If it breaks...a very expensive one lol.

With your set up i'd be saving for a 24". I'd have it off him for £100 maybe..no more as is it an older model with no warranty.

Alright cool, that's the kind of answer I was looking for, cheers Mike. I was a bit dubious of paying that much for an older monitor without a warranty...

If you have been offered a 20" monitor with no warranty for £130 surely it would be better to spend an extra £35 and get a 22" monitor with a 3 year warranty.

1680x1050 resolution, 5ms response and DVI Interface.

Tell your mate that £130 is a bit steep or go for the 22"
