Quick gfx card advice
I am posting this here on behalf of a friend who is looking to spend around £120 max on a new graphics card
I don't know the specs of his machine but I do know he is only running WinXP with a C2D E4300 and 1Gb memory (although he is talking about upping this to 2Gb)
He is currently considering the following 3 cards from Scan and would appreciate some informed opinions
1. 256mb Sapphire X1950 pro (£102)
2. 256mb XFX 7950GT XXX (£115)
3. 256mb XFX 8600GT XXX (£110)
I appreciate that I can't give you any more information but any info you can give me I will gladly pass on
Cheers in advance
Glenn
PS - Personally I am also looking at the X1950 pro for now but this might change my mind too
-
Well, the 7950 is faster than the 1950PRO most of the times, and seeing that it is passive, it's definitely going to be more quiet as well ;) So my vote goes for 7950GT. And 8600GT is poo.

It's a straight choice between the x1950 pro and the 7950GT, and the gt is faster than the x1950pro, so if he/she is into games then this maybe the better card. If he/she isn't into games, then decide by cost.

79fifteeeeee.
but really, just as long as it isnt the 8600 you are doing fine
-
Avoid the 8600, that's obvious :p
Then it's a harder choice. The 7950gt is generally faster than the 1950pro, but not always. For most games the 7950gt is a top choice. Exceptions would be if you're playing something like Oblivion or Gothic 3 type games a lot, which fare better on the AMD card. The AMD card also has better image quality, though whether it's fast enough to utilise it is another question.

Go for the 7950gt :) as I've got the 512mb version
-
You can get an X1950XT for £117 from OCUK (Dont hit me for mentioning them :P)
-
That would be a top choice for the money!
(*cries at how much his cost him not that long ago*)

Performance wise it's
7950GT > X1950Pro > 8600GT
Image Quality it's
8600GT > X1950Pro > 7950GT
If you can pickup a 512mb Xpertvision X1950Pro they come equipped with 1.1ns memory and are quite overclockable. That is to say the one I bought to try out was.
