Question 256Mb Sapphire X1650 PRO Problem

I recently bought an 256Mb Sapphire X1650 PRO AGP card and installed it into my system. Everything was fine for about an hour until my display went completely corrupt with loads of green lines across it. If I boot into Safe Mode it is ok, but as soon as I load Windows normally everything goes corrupt again.

After reading this forum I have come to the conclusion that my PSU is not up to scratch (Its a 400W Vantec Ion and about 3 years old). The rest of my rig is as follows:

    Athlon XP 3200+ CPU
    Abit NF7 nForce2 Motherboard
    2 x 512Mb Crucial PC3200 RAM
1 X 40Gb 10,000 RPM SATA Hard drive (Windows Vista Installed here)
    2 x 160Gb ATA Hard Drives
    1 x DVD-RW Drive
    1 x DVD-ROM Drive
1 x Winfast VC100 Video Capture PCI Card

My question is, have I fried my Sapphire X1650 by running it with my old PSU? Or will I be OK if I upgrade it to a more modern one. I am thinking of buying one of these:

Corsair HX Series 520W Modular PSU
    Hiper 580W Type-R PSU

    Will this be ok?

    Thanks!

If the current psu is still functioning then it is unlikely to have damaged your card.
Out of the two psu's you have listed the corsair is so much better, but the hiper would suffice. Depending on the price difference the corsair is the way to go for rock solid stability.

Thanks a lot for the advice. I think I will go for the Corsair then!

There are 2 models of the Corsair psu. A 520W and a 620W. Would the 520W suffice or would I be better off with the 620W one? The 620W is £30 more.

the 520W is already in excess for what your system needs, the 620W would be a complete waste.
