Asus monitors are normally alright..I don't have much esperience of them though.

Some people don't get along with 19" widescreens due to having to scroll lots due to not being able to fit much on the screen length ways..

I use one for my second screen though at really quite like it..

This is mine, very nice for the price.

I have one at that resolution, and the above is true, there can be a bit more scrolling, and compared to a 19in square, it looks small - I noticed this as I recently got a chance to choose between the 2 sizes for a work monitor.

So... If your mate is just doing web stuff, then I reckon go with the square. But if they are going to be watching films etc, then go with the wide.

One more thing is that for games, more and more natively support wide resolutions, and its much better to game WS. The res of that (and mine, and the guy above) is 1440*900 which isnt that high, so it means that you can game at native res without too expensive a GPU. Basically, it comes down to what your mate is going to be using it for...

    Hope that helps!

We've had some Yukaru 19" Widescreens at work and they're great little screens with a gloss finish. If you can find them, they should be around £100.
