    X800GTO2 to 7900GT

I'm currently running an ATI X800GTO2 with the BIOS tweaked and it being overclocked (Arctic Cooling HSF installed), I'm getting a used 7900GT in a couple of days time for peanuts and I'm not sure if I should swap out my X800GTO2 or sell the 7900GT on eBay ?.

Looking online it seems that the benefits are...

    # SM3
    # About an extra 10 or so fps in most games if I'm lucky ?

... what do you guys think ?. Should I put a Zalman HSF onto the 7900GT, overclock it and use it as my main graphics card ?.

Yeah i reckon that's a worthy upgrade personally, if only because it's newer tech. I had a X800GTO2 on my previous PC and when I upgraded to the next gen (X1950pro in my case, but comparible there was a noticeable performance increase).

    I vote YES

What games do you play? If it's only CS or other source games, then not worth it. For any other modern games it'll be well worth it

Chances are you're getting the 7900GT for peanuts because it's one of the ones with borked Samsung memory. You'll be lucky if it runs correctly at stock speeds, never mind overclocked...

It's actualy my little brothers, it's mine for a couple of quid and a pizza

He's decided that he's got plenty of cash to spend on an upgrade (8800GTX + C2D + huuuuuge Dell widescreen etc...), the joys of being 22 + living at home + not having a wife and kids (unlike his big bro !).

    It's a branded card, a Gainward I think ?.

Well looking at tomshardware charts a 7900GT beats the x850XT by a good chunk. (I assume you've soft modded it to open the extra pipes and overclocking to around 520mhz)

Looking at the numbers they should be around the same speed, but evenm unlocked the X800GTO2 is only 16 pipes vs the 7900GT's 24 pipes

Looking at thoes tables the 7900GT has a slight edge in the latest shader heavy games, but look at something like doom3 (1280x1024 ultar quality) and the 7900GT is around 50% faster.

A couple of quid and a pizza, go for it
