    Replacement Graphics card

    Evening all

Ive recently purchased a HIS x1950 pro, but after the problems Ive been experiencing with the thermal power down (The card powers down at 50 degrees, and I loose all signals to the monitors, but the PC carrys on.) Ive decided to RMA the card with the supplier.

The problem I have now is what card to go for as a replacement?
The card must have 2 DVI ports to run my 2 TFT's
    Must be AGP
    Ive a budget of £120
Must'nt have a problem of bombing out at 50 degrees lol

Ideally I'd like to go for another ATI, but with the heat issues of the above card, i'm seriously soured, however i'm not ruling themn out completely!

Whats the equivilent of the nvidia front?

    Thanks for your help

Won't you just get the same card when you RMA?

Not at all a bad thing, HIS X1950 Pro's are ace, just sounds like you were unlucky.

Hate to say it, as I love the x1950pro.. but this is about the 4th time I've heard of exactly the same fault. Two times with sapphire, once with asus, now with HIS.. all of which have various cooler designs so it's getting hard for me to say it's a problem with just bad cooler design

The 7800GS/7900GS are roughly the same in speed and price from nVidia - they are superior for openGL and texture heavy games but not so good for shader heavy games or image quality.

    Example from scan - £128 XFX 7900GS:

it does sound like there are quite a few problems/quality issues cropping up with the ati x1950pro
    Best options are
1 get another x1950pro and hope it does not breakdown
2 a 7900GS, overall it's slightly slower and slightly more expensive
3 get a x1950GT they are slightly cheaper and slower than the Pro, hopefully being at a slower clock speed it should be more robust with a smaller chance of going phut.

    Thanks for the replies

Nightshadow: I've always been happy with ATi Cards, but reading as many reports about faulty cooling as kalniel said, has sadly put me off the 1950 range I really cant be doing with having another card go pop and have to send it back. unfortunatly where i work is in the middle of nowhere and getting to a decent PO or courier is firm is hit and miss (mostly miss lol)

Kalniel: thanks for the reccomendation, ironically that is
exactly the card I was looking at before coming here to check lol
