    Retarded Vista Experience Rating

So I have built my system, and it works fine, although I have yet to benchmark it.

    E4300
    2GB DDR2 800 CAS4
    Barracuda 7200.10 320GB
    P35C DSR3
    2900XT

Vista gives this an experience rating of 1, because it thinks the second most powerful graphics card in existance has a rating of 1.

I updated to Catalyst 7.6, then refreshed the experience rating thing, and it still refuses to acknowledge the graphics card!

It's only an irritation, but I would rather like it fixed.

Many thanks to those who helped with the system, and in advance for any replies.

probably because vista was released before the 2900XT so it doesnt know what it is, you just gotta wait for *** to atch it i think.

had a similar issue with KoToR1 with an 8800gts

Not even worth a second thought tbh. Its new hardware that wasnt around when Vista was released and Im sure the performance index isnt on the top of their priorities.

Yeah, I thought that might be it.

How will I know if Aero is turned on? I haven't seen a demonstration of it, and I can't find any settings which would allow me to turn it on or off. Would this experience thing cause Aero to automatically be disabled?

Edit: Ok, so I have seen Aero on youtube and my computer does that, but I saw a demonstration vide a months ago, where the windows could be turned around in 3D, so you could see the back of them. Does anyone know how to enable this?

My 2900XT gets 5.9 on both the graphical vista scores. Its not the fact that it wasnt available when vista was released. Could be the new motherboard/graphics combo giving the issue.

You would recognise Aero if it's running as you would see transparent borders around the windows. pressing the Windows key and Tab should give you the cascaded window view as well.

Sounds like a driver / hardware combination problem. There is always going to be hardware released after an OS is produced. The score of 1 suggests the hardware is not being picked up properly. I take it you get a score of 1 for gaming graphics as well as graphics. As a matter of interest, on the welcome screen, what does it say the graphics card is?

If you get glass borders around non-maximised windows - aero is on. If you can hit Windows + TAB and all your windows appear rotated away from you - aero is on. If you right click on the desktop, choose "Personalize" and see a dialog with "Window Color and Appearance" allowing you to turn on transparency - aero is on There's 3 ways

I just installed catalyst 7.6 and my gaming graphics score dropped to 5.8 from 5.9. So its not that catalyst version either.

It recognises the card as a 2900xt.

hmm. I just installed CS:S, so I'll test it and post what happens.
