8800GTX 768MB With My Specs

Hello,

I am on the verge of purchasing a 8800GTX and just wanted to get some final questions in.

I currently have a X2 4600+. I just wanted to find out if this CPU would really bottleneck the card, basically making it useless.

Any information on the 4600+ and the 8800GTX working together would be greatly appreciated.

it is more about the length of the card than available slots, i.e. a gtx would not fit in my sonata as the hdd cage would prevent it...

have a measure up for yours...

Are we talking AM2 or 939? A mate of mine who has a 7900GT just upgraded to a C2D E6430 + 667 ram from an 939 FX-55 and his FPS seems to be slightly better than mine now prving how much a 939 and DDR1 bottlenecks a 8800. Plus i only have a GTS ur talking about a GTX

In short, you'll not notice if it is bottle-necking it without checking numbers. A64s strength was gaming after all.

Long answer: It depends on the resolution really. If you're running 800x640 the graphics card will just laugh, and the rest of the system will be the bottle-neck. But if you game at 2560x1600 there's no way on earth the CPU will be the limiting factor. Obviously an extreme example to get the point across, but it does stand.

My Opty 146 at work is fine for the majority of things - give it an extra core and I doubt I could tell the difference to the C2D I have at home (3.3GHz) without benchmarking or encoding a large video. Certainly in gaming I couldn't tell the difference between the 2 (the Opty used to be in my home system), though I've 'only' got an X1900XT, not an 8800GTX.

What resolution you planning on gaming at? A GTS may be a better upgrade if you dont plan on changing CPU/MOBO/RAM for a while + that would lower the risk of the card not fitting in the case

Make sure you have a good PSU as well.

a GTX is about 10.5 inches long while a GTS is about 9.5 inches long.

a GTX needs two 6 pin PCI-E power connectors and a GTS needs 1 6 pin.
