Samsung sm226bw or Philips Brilliance 200WP7ES

    Hi all ,

After all the fuss over Samsung A , S or C type displays I was wondering if I ought to perhaps consider the Philips Monitor which is second choice in the PC Pro lists. If I am spending £200-£250 i really do not want to be stuck with a screen that may not be all it is meant to be.

Also is their any other highly recommended monitors in this price range I ought to consider ?I am assuming also their is not a real difference between 20 and 22 inch? Plus I do prefer a refresh rate of at least 75 Hertz as 60 i seem to notice....

    HP w2207 - £229 from Comet

The colour and sharpness are a lot better than the Samsung IMO.

The only issue with the HP is it's only got one year. Extra 2 year warranty from Comet costs £59

I gave up on the Samsung 226BW and bought a LG226WTQ.

    re the HP option

Is the problem with the HP MyDisplaythat seems to have been reported at its release still unresolved?

I will be using the monitor mostly for gaming ( oblivion etc) and surfing the net but unlike most here I am not familiar with tweaking a monitor for best performance , I usually go with the factory settings or maybe a little adjustment of contrast/brightness

I have only changed Contrast/Ratio, and it's fine.

The software isn't working properly with my 64bit Vista yet, and its driver won't install either

My OS is XP so I presume i wouldn`t be having any problems then? Still torn between the samsung and the philips but now adding the HP to the mix... might see if anyone promises the Samsung with the S screen , or at least the A

Samsung did state in a recent press release that all new 226BW should be S panel so you may just to have wait for old stock to disappear.

Samsung is also introducing the 226CW which has a wider colour(supposedly!) in the next few weeks.

This should mean that the 226BW will drop in price.

They also removed all markings so it's now impossible to tell what you've got. But if it has a noticeable blue tint to it at default settings then it's not an "S" panel.

I was assuming they would start applying the labels again.

Yes it arrived yesterday with no clue as to what screen it had but it was manufactured in July 2007 , haven`t adjusted the settings yet . Must say play.com took my order and delivered really quickly so pleased with their service as usual for this firm

Oddly when I tried registering it at Samsung Uk there was no option to select a sm226bw so its registered as "other" at the moment, may ring them to check it went through okay...

Is there no label on the back hinting at panel type?
