Would a 256Mb 850XT to 512Mb 1950Pro solve all my problems? (AGP)

I only have a 3Ghz P4 Northwood overclocked to 3.45Ghz (skt 478). Would a 1950Pro be CPU restricted, and a 1950XT moreso?

it should be fine.. but I'm more worried about the board you have.. the last time i checked most s478 boards only have 4x PCI-E enabled on 16x PCI-E slots..

That is more of a bottleneck than the CPU tbh..

My board is a DFI Lanpart 875B and so is very restricted in the PCIe area, as it only has AGP ;-)

then in that case, it shoudnt be too much of a problem.. P4 is pretty slow, but it shoudnt slow the X1950XT by too much.. you'll probably hit a cap on max fps, but those that does will probably have fps range beyond your ability to notice (>100fps etc).. Those that performs slowly will probably down to the card itself.. or perhaps games that require multiple cores or faster chip..

Thought I woul dadd my 2 penny worth.
The x1950 pro is the obvious move, but I would very very strongly advise another gig of ram for the games you wish to play. BF2 has pretty crappy coding and it will happily over run your current 1 gig.

As already suggested a 256 card 1950 pro and look at getting some more ram.

It's a shame I've only just seen this post - that HIS X1950Pro would have been perfect, especially at that price. Oh well, I'll keep my eye out for some others on ebay. Thx.
