What temps are you getting?
mine idles 59C.. hits 80C during prolonged load..
Sounds fine to me?
56 idle, 65 load
50 Idle
60 - 65 Load
You should be able to run into the low one hundreds..

My GTX runs 55 idle 65 load
It is perfectly safe as the throttle will kick in at 110, however as we all like to run cooler as frazered has linked to that thread have a look at your case ventilation and possibly invest in a slot cooler.
I have an extraction fan directly above the card that vents to the rear outlet, came as standard on the case.So the slot cooler would do the same.
download rivatuner and increase the default fan speed to 80%, you wont hear much extra noise, but will drop down a few degrees.
