    whats my best option ?

i just sold my 8800 gtx as it was overkill for any of the game i play, my monitor id hdmi 1680x1050 and wont support any higher.

ive bought an x300 cheap but my parents are going away for a bit which leaves me stuck in the house with nothing to do but play games...........on an x300

i have enough money to buy any card but what i want to ask is whats the best one to tide me over until the next gen of gfx where ill pickup an 8800 ultra for cheap ?

    so far seen this

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=619508

however theres same models of that selling for £300+ on scan..............

Maybe up one bit to the 8800GTS 320MB? Though I must warn you of the ultra iffy drivers Nvidia is having now..

Otherwise, ATI's X1950XT and their excellent drivers are hard to fault for £130odd.. £110 over at Ebuyer too..
    Me want Ultrabook

Nah it won't make much difference, go with the 256MB model and save £20.

Wow twoblacklines, you seem to have been wasteing money in a spectaular way
You should of just stuck with that 8800GTX yes it was overpowered but it would of lasted a good while.

if you're just looking for a card to tide you over then I'd sugest X1950Pro or something simular in the sub £100 mark.
Simply is it worth paying any thing over £100 if you're just going to replace it in about 6months?

A 512mb card would be better, but the gain is small compaired to the added cost. Generally speaking it's better to get the next "version" up than to get the added memory.

EDIT: and that HiS x1950XT haveing only 18 pipes is indeed a typo, should be 48

    Well that's another matter altogether.

I don't know of any x1800 to x1950 that has passive cooling and I doubt you'll find a high end card that does.

Your choises are less powerfull or look to watercooling

the only way to do it is mod the card.
You could have done this with your 8800GTX that you had.

    http://www.thermalright.com/default.htm

Could have stuck a quiet 120 mm nexus fan on, still thats the past.

If you want silent and still have the benefits of 8800 as already suggested a 320 mb will run on your monitor, no problem. Fit the above cooling solution and you now have a quieter solution.
