should be fine the 7600 isnt a power hungry card plus dell psu's are normally very good quality

    7600GS should be ok
    7600GT might be a problem.

However you'll probably be fine, You might need a:
6pin PCI-E connector on your PSU or two free 4pin molunex (graphics card should come with an adapter)
    Or
    One free 4pin Molunex

    All depends on the card.

Please see my comments in your other thread, that 250w psu in your dell will probably struggle even with a 7600gs

    Re: 7600@ can it run

Dell PSUs while rated low are quite capable of sustaining high loads, 7600 GS and 7600 GT are also extremely low power draw for modern cards, 6800 GS will most likely be higher draw than both.

    Re: 7600@ can it run

    I don't think they did 6800GS

However the 6 series are more power hungery than the 7 series.

Actually looking at it again, 7600GS should be ok, 7600GT should be but might not.
Sorry if that's a bit vague, it can be that way some times.

I think the best advice is get a 7600GT and stick it in. If you start to get maroj instability then you're probably pushing the PSU too far.
You'll not need to spend heaps on a new PSU something like this 400W FSP @ £33 will be fine.

Yeah, they did an AGP 6800GS.

Tetras is right, those Dell PSUs look low wattage, but are actually well known for running better than they look on paper. A 7600xx card should be fine I reckon - the only real way to find out is to get one and try it!!

Depends, you should be able to, I know some older Compaqs had to have Compaq PSUs, but I think Dell's use standard ones.

    Re: 7600@ can it run

Yes the Dell's use standard cpu's, it's just custom power supplies, cases and motherboards that dell use.

The problem will be trying to find a CPU that will fit in that motherboard.
It's a Socket 478 motherboard, Willamette or Northwood, 400 MHz bus max.
Intel Pentium 4 2.4GHz that's the fastest thing I can find, however at £93.94 it's not worth it.

Sorry but your best option is to save up and get a totally new pc.

EDIT: SOrry my boob, read PSU as CPU. Yes dells use standard PSUs and they are very easy to replace, they are just held in by 4 screws
The one thing that can be a problem is the the molnex connectors can be very still and require a bit of force to get out. (the ones that go into the hard drive and cdrom and such) god bless who every it was who came up with the easy remove molnex connectors.

    Re: 7600@ can it run

So is there chance of me running a 7600GT or GS than something from the 6 series(if i read correct) how much diffrence in proformace is there Between the GS and the GT if its pretty small il go with the GS becuase it "apparantly" run's less power but with pretty much the same proformace.

    Re: 7600@ can it run

Kind of depends on what resolution you want to play games in.

Take a look here and you can see at 800x600 there is hardly any difference as the game is limited by the CPU speed, but by 1600x1200 the GS is on the limit of being playable, the GT is 44% faster.

The question is, can a 1.8GHz P4 push a graphics card fast enough to make the 7600GT worthwhile?

I think you would be delighted with either of them frankly, and the cheaper GS is probably a good balance for your system.

    Re: 7600@ can it run

He's probably on 1280x1024 or 1024x768 depending on the monitor.
    Older tft's 15"-17"=1024x768 19"=1280x1024
    newer tft's 17"-19"=1280x1024
CRTs vary far more but generally 17"or less =1024x768 (anything over tends to be too small to see well)
19" or more =1280x1024 or more.

Wide screen monitors are wider but shorter so the total number of pixels are still about the same.

I still say a 7600GS is probably best.
