    3D Mark 5731 on a 9800XT???

    Hi all,

I just bought a 9800xt, decided to go for double the price over the 9600xt, but I expected more than 1000 3D Marks difference..... I cannot figure it out, I am running the cat. 3.10 drivers and i cannot get the AGP rate to save, in the 3d Marks log it says AGP Rates (Current/Available) 0x / 1x, 2x, 4x but no where can I alter it to save it?! Its driving me nuts lol, I know I have a 4X AGPboard, but i really don;t have the funds to go for the dual channel ram a nd a new mobo, so does anyone have any ideas? In the comparison ratings I am getting whooped and they are running lower clock speeds on the memory even though mine is stock. I get a whopping range of 10 FPS - 0 FPS on CPU Test 2 and it says the average is 2.0 FPS

    Any help appreciated....

what came OUT of your PC? What card? Sounds like a driver bodge up OR the clock speeds are all wrong....maybe a re install of XP?

    hold on....just thought......

in the vid card properties....(right click the desktop, left click Properties, top right tab"Settings" then Advanced.....then 3d Options....

Make sure the sliders are MID WAY....on both dx and open gl

cos maybe its set to HIGHEST QUALIOTY....which means monster Anti Aliasing and Anisotrpic filtering....

in WHICH case you are getting AWESOME SCORES!

    PS..it IS 3d mark 2001 SE not 2003? innit?

No this is 3d Mark 03 that I am running, I have moved the sliders to highest quality but it makes no difference, i have just come from having a Ti4800se 128mb card but I ran two different driver removal tools before installing the 3.10 caty's.

Btw would an 8x AGP board make THAT much of a difference in your opinion, I figure now if I wait this card will become slowly outdated so might as well whack the new kit on plastic lol.

Thanks for the tips, will check...m@

Its that reading of 0x AGP that is really bothering me

Trying to justify if 8xAGP would give me that much boost, have been looking at a gigabyte 8KNXP I beleive as the MSI Neo FISR has the bios blanking problem on the current bios version.

its an intel 845 chipset therefore it only supports 4X agp therefore ur card is running 4X regardless of what software says

11,957 is deffinatly very low for a 9800XT.

I get 132** with my set up (see sig)

Could the mobo be limiting it? also what is the heat like?

Other than that i would suggest driver problems. Have you got a firewall?

definatly sounds like a driver problem if your only getting 11k in 2001

ATI recommend setting the AGP aperture size to 64MB, i set my one at 128MB but 64MB seems the smoothest in 3Dmarks 2003.

AGP X8 isnt much faster than X4, so i wouldnt worry about getting it to run at that.

3D 2001 score is low though

To clean your old Nvidia drivers out give Drivercleaner a try if you havent already also i find it best to do this in safe mode.

Yup did that in safe mode too, TBH its been a year without format, I guess it might be best just to format the machine and start afresh, its annoying as whn I do upgrade the mobo in a few months I will have to do it again as the main drives are going to be upgraded to SATA.

not really, look at my system spec and my score. 9800 Pro 128MB with a 3dmark2k1 score of 16k, which is about 1-2k too low
