X1950XT vs X1950Pro

Scan are out of stock of the Power Color X1950XT, and I was really hoping to order my whole new system this weekend, nowhere else sells any XT anywhere near that price (ebuyer is out of stock of the Sapphire X1950XT also).

Is the X1950XT so much better that it's worth waiting for? or should I just order the X1950Pro? - I especially like the Power Color cards because they're a good price and 3rd party quiet coolers.

I would wait for the X1950XT as it is a much better card then the X1950pro. The X1950 pro is still a good card in its own right, but the X1950xt will provide a much better gaming experience, especially at higher resolutions. Plus in terms of price the X1950XT gives much more 'bang for buck' as it is only £25 to £30 more then an X1950Pro.

Thanks for the link, but I'm really keen on the Power Color because of it's 3rd party cooler.

Depends what resolution you will be running at if it's 1280x1024 or 1440x900, most 17"-19" monitors run at these resloution.
Then you will not see much inprovement over a x1950Pro with a x19050XT but if you're running higher resolutions you probably want to try and hold out for the XT or try to scrape up a bot more cash and get a cheap 8800GTS

I dunno about this statement. I would agree with scraping & saving for the 8800 but seeing as a mate of mine has basically the same setup as me except i used to have a pro whereas he had an XT his comp had far more FPS. Definately enough to wait a week or two for

The X1950pro wont be able to handle 1280*1024 with all the eye candy on. However I am pretty sure the X1950xt will.

For the price in comparison to the Pro and XT it might aswell not exsist. I imagine its proably about the same amount less powerful as the Pro is to the XT

The X1950GT is basically a lower clocked version of the X1950Pro. The X1950pro runs at about 575Mhz (core) and 1.38Mhz (memory), and the X1950Gt runs at 500Mhz and 1.2Ghz (memory). According to gaming benchmarks I think it is about 10% slower then the X1950Pro.

Thanks for all the info and replys - I'm actually going to be running it at 1680x1050, but I'm not a heavy gamer, and happy to leave the "bells and whistles" of the graphics turned off to get steady FPS. It's not so much the price that's stopping me upgrading to a 8800GTS, it's the size of the heatsink & fan on them all! I hate fan noise, so I'm trying to build a quiet box - any of the special "silent" 8800 cost a bit too much, unless you can recommend me one

Bloody Hell! In searching through reviews, under load, an 8800GTS draws over 280W! and at idle, just over 180W!!!!! how does that compare to a X1950XT? - is the extra wattage going to effect me having a silent PC, in terms of perhaps needing a more powerful PSU than I had planned on (450W)

Ok, I've answered my questions about noise! The EVGA ACS3 isn't quiet at all. It idles at 51dB and under load is 63dB. I'm definately waiting for the Power Color X1950XT to come back in stock! - which is only around 20dB with it's 'silent' arctic cooler.
