What would you say should be the VERY MAX after youve overclocked and then go back down a few Mhz, my GFX card temp atm is 53, when playing a game go's around to 60/65.

It depends which card you've got there but 60/65 sounds quite normal to me.
When im doing nothing just like a few Internet Exploerers and msn xfire etc its 43 which i assume is pretty low, im tempted to buy a fan to connect to the GFX just for extra cooling when Overclocking!
What card do you have?
6200
Doesn't seem to be high, although that is an entry level card. A fan blowing onto the graphics card wouldn't do any harm, although it may corrupt the airflow in your case. I don't think the temps are worrying.
I have passively cooled Nvidia 7950GT in a case with 12cm intake and exhaust fans. According to the Nvidia software it hits ~70C after an hour or so of playing UT2003. It says 56C right now and I've not been doing anything but looking at web pages for the last half hour or so. The Nvidia software shows the (non editable) shutdown threshold as 130C. So I'm not worried by 70C and don't think you should be worried by 60/65C.
If you have that card and get 70C, (well depends on how meny fan's you have) id say thats quite high, i have ONE fan at the back of my computer and ONE fan thats on the PSU(but what psu dont), isnt 70 quite high??
I guess 70 is kinda high. But there's no fan on the graphics card itself and the default Nvidia software setting for shutdown, which isn't editable so much have been set by Nvidia is 130. 70 is long way below 130 and checked the temp straight after an hour or so's gaming it's never been higher than I think 73, certainly low 70s.
Also there's a review (http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/200...7950_gt_570m/2) mentions temps as high as 110 and they don't mention the card crapping out as a result.
So I figure 70 is fine.
that was with it overclocked tho, so cos i did it so much, i ****ed the card it still works, just cant overclock, just freezes etcso now its at like 40/50
my XFX 8800 ultras run at 82 degrees on the stock air coolers
56 under water cooling
And are they OK at those temps? My passively called 7950GT is an XFX product. 256mb, factory oveclocked memory. I caught it running at 84C the other day after I'd been gaming. I'm also starting to think that freezing/stuttering/locking, even on one occasion the PC rebooting itself, problems I've been having with a couple games under (a two week old install of) Windows XP are heat related. I rigged up an extra fan sat between the graphics card heat sink and the vent on the side of the PC case. The graphics card idle temp reading plummeted by around 20C to 42C and I was able to play Call of Duty 2 @ 1680x1050 for two hours with no problems. After those two hours the temp reading was high fifties, not even as high as it was at idle without the fan. (No problems after two hours - eye's just needed a rest!) Before I couldn't get past an hour @ 1024x768. (Which for some reason is what Call of Duty defaults to despite my machine easily exceeding the recommended specs.) The extra fan is irritatingly loud when not drowned out by a game, I may rig it up so I can easily turn it on when I game and off when I'm done.
An 8800 is perfectly fine at 80-85C load. With stock cooling they tend to idle at ~50C.
2900XT is perfectly fine at 100C.
So it's a big matter of what exactly card you are using
And what clocks you are using.
100C may be acceptable for a stock 2900, but overclock it much and you'll have to make it cooler for it to be stable.
When i overclocked it from 350Mhz to 400/420 worked ok, then i got cocky and went to 500Mhzand i couldnt even play it would just like freeze and stuff with the sound still going as normal but nothing playing, i was oh oh buggger its going to stay like this but reaslised that it went back to normal but cannot overclock again for somereason even by 1Mhz :/ but when i did overclock to 500Mhz i was around 70 playing cod2
