    How to connect monitor (SM206WB)

    Hey guys,

Bought a SM206BW for my new computer and had a couple of questions regarding cables.

There are to ports, a D-sub (Analog) and DVI (Digital), I've connected it up via the D-sub purely because that is the cable included with the monitor. I was wondering what the difference would be if I bought the other DVI (digital) cable, what are the benefits?

The thing is I had also bought a VGA cable for my 360, so I could connect it up to the screen.. I'm pretty sure the VGA cable connects into the port where I've currently connected the monitor to PC - D-Sub (analog)...

Is it worth connecting monitor to PC via the DVI (digital) and then the 360 to D-Sub (analog) or just swapping between the two on d-sub..

    Thanks all!

Most people prefer to use digital but at that resolution its hardly a noticeable difference I find. If the 360 goes in the VGA then yeah i'd use the pc with DVI and probably use the DVI anyway..text quality tends to be the thing that suffers at your resolution with VGA

Re: How to connect monitor (SM206WB)

Well stright off the one big advantage is that you can hook the pc in via the DVI and 360 via the d-sub and don't have to mess around behind the monitor unpulging and replugging cables.

In theory DVI is better quality, in reality you will not notice any real differnce, personally I would use DVI if both monitor and graphics card have it simply as you don't need to muck about with additional plug in converters and a DVI lead is cheap.

EDIT: I'd just like to add, there is no noticeable differnce in picture quality between D-Sub and DVI on a Viewsonic VP2030b (20.1") @ 1600x1200

Yep DVI-D to DVI-D something like this will be fine.

DVI-I to DVI-I should also work, but you need to check the monitor & graphics card socket first, as sometimes the pin holes are blocked off.

I have the same monitor. I'm surprised yours didn't come with a dvi cable, mine did aswell as vga and a nice little duster thing.

Re: How to connect monitor (SM206WB)

Is there really THAT much difference in VGA/DVI for the average user? ie gaming, random net browsing, no DVD watching or anything (thats why I have a plasma TV & a DVD player!)
I'm after a 22" @ 1680*1050 & keep getting told to not consider anything unless it has DVI?
