    Problem starting DX10 game

I just downloaded a demo of Lost Planets:Extreme Conditions.
As stated, you need DirectX10 to play the demo (not the game ^^ ).
I have windows vista, and a GeForce 8800 GTX, compatible and running DirectX10 .

When I start the demo, my screen goes black (and now comes the intro?) and thats it (no intro =[ ).
My screen is black and the power light goes on and off and on and off...

    Whats wrong here?

    Re: Problem starting DX10 game

It could be a number of things but I think we need more info before anyone can locate the problem.

Have you got the latest drivers for motherboard and nvidia? Try using the nvidia beta drivers. Is the gtx getting enough power - what PSU are you running - specs?
Does the PC run fine all the time? Do you get this issue with other games? What sort of temperature is your gtx running at in DX9 games?

As Iranu said it could be nvidia drivers, Sound drivers, Vista drivers, PSU or the demo could be corrupt ?

    Re: Problem starting DX10 game

Does Vista have a message saying that this program has stopped working properly, once you get out of the black screen?

I had this problem (apart from the power light bit) with the bioshock demo and downloading the latest dx9c updates fixed it. Im a bit confused about what games use dx9/10 and how theyre installed but ^ worked for me..

    Re: Problem starting DX10 game

I never got out of the black screen...

I just had exactly the same problem when I set BF2142 on a higher screen resolution (all gfx settings maxed).

I don't know what power supply I have, i bought a dell dimension 9200, ill look it up.

    My drivers are all up-to-date

I'll have a look for the temperature

375w on 8800GTX, then that maybe the problem right there.

    Re: Problem starting DX10 game

Like they said it's prob's your PSU, but i did download a BF2 Demo once and i had exsacly the same problem the game just would not boot and computer frooze etc, but then i can play things like Test drive unlimited so it obviously not the computer, i would say try and find a game that has a high graphics but id say Lost plant and DX10 i dont think you cant get much better than that at the minute!

    Re: Problem starting DX10 game

I'm not sure, It says its got 375 watt power supply on the dell page.
But on that same page its selected other specs (duel core instead of quad, geforce 7300 instead of 8800).

I'm now trying to get the same information but with my specs...

    Re: Problem starting DX10 game

I would bet that the issue is that power supply. I know that dell have very good quality units in them but even still it seems inadequate for a 8800gtx. What model dell is it? Can you give a link to their page?

If you bought it direct from Dell then they should be able to change the PSU for you. If it's second hand I'd recommend a PSU upgrade.

Nvidia recommend a 450w PSU with 32 amps on the 12v rail for a 8800gtx. This is probably a cautious figure. I'm contemplating whether my 480w 28A Tagan can power a gtx. Might give it a go bearing in mind you got yours to run without issues until Lost Planets:Extreme Conditions pushed the card a bit harder.
