1680x1050, what card do I need?

I've currently got a 6800 Ultra, 22" widescreen at 1680x1050 so I'm getting killed with the new games. Medal of Honour: Airborne and CoD4 are the favourites this year and I just demo'd Airborne and finally decided this Ultra is at the end of its life span. No clocking or special tweaked drivers are going to save it now.

It's got to be between the 2900XT, 8800GTS and 8800GTX. Which should I go for? The 2900XT is the top range card but can't beat the GTX and is only just catching the GTS. How long would it last me?

I'm safe with the GTX, it is well loved by many but it's expensive and I can't seem to find a good deal.

Thoughts?

Intel C2D E6600 2.7Ghz
1GB RAM DDR2 PC2-5300
6800 Ultra

Also, could I be doing with a RAM upgrade? The days of 1GB are slowly ending for me.

I'd say get another gig of ram- they're relatively cheap nowadays.

As for GPU, the GTX is the best but if its outof budget then I would get a GTS possibly 640mb version

320GTS is more than enough for 1650x1050.

I don't have any problems with a 256mb x1950xt

Try playing the bioshock demo at the resolution, i did last night & I have a x1900xtx, low 17fps, average 25-30 fps max 40fps

If you can afford it and ever decide to get a bigger monitor, then either the GTS or GTX if you want to push the boat out...

I'm waiting for the full game to arrive, but yeah I'll see how it copes then! Up to now it's been fine I should say Bioshock could be the first game I have to turn down some of the extra like HQ AF and so on.

2GB minimum for modern games IMO and if you decide to dip your toe into the waters of DX10, then go gtx =P

I've had to drop down to 1680x1050 to play lost planet at 40-60FPS with a GTX and its a game where the quad core supposedly makes a difference....

ps the best card atm is the 8800Ultra but that's probably going to be overkill and don't know how long it'll last for. . .

I'd hold off for a week or two so we can get some experiences on bioshock from 8800 owners.

That is definitely where half of your problems are. Those games pretty sure have recommended specification of 2GB memory. With 1GB you should be just reaching the "minimum spec".

Like the older CoD, you can turn down the pixel shader version to significantly improve performance (with some eye-candies turned off).

I would suggest you try to get some more ram first and try the demo again.

Another GB of RAM and a GTX, especially if you want to play games like Bioshock.

I have 2GB and as above that's the performance I was getting, Im going to hang fire buying it till its been out a while and reviewed etc...
