Overclocking a Leadtek 5900 LX

Hey there. I havn't done any overclocking before so I'd appreciate it if you guys could help me out here :) I've got a Leadtek 5900 LX and I'd like to get it to 5900 speeds. It's running at 301/702 MHZ at the moment, and I'd like to squeeze that bit more out of it.

I'm using the standard Intel P4 2.8 Fan & heatsink and my case holds 1 rear 120mm fan and 1 front 120 mm. I don't wanna put any components in danger so don't go OTT with the suggestions ;)

I've got WinFox, but if you know anything better for the job than that lemme know and tell me what to do :D Also I've got a Q-Tec 400W PSU, and I know a lot of people have said these have caused major problems, do I don't know :confused: Hope it helps anyway.

http://download.guru3d.com/rivatuner/ get rivatuner if you are overclocking a nvidia card... basically increase the core or memory frequency in 5-10mhz steps, once you've clocked it, save the clock settings, and then run a loop (or 2) of 3dmark2001, and see if there are any artifacts (basically speckles or lines, or anything that shouldnt be there - basically errors) and if there are then clock it down a bit, if not then increase the clocks some more :)

q-tec psus arent the best in the world, as they cant give out a decent amount of power compared to what they are supposedly rated at (and i know that many people on the forum have had q-tec psu's fry their computer stuff, for no given reason... you might want to invest in something less likely to do damage :) but i'm sure other people will be able to give you advice about that)..

edit - didnt realise you had already overclocked the card some.. need to actually read the whole post before replying hehe. :) you say your case holds 2 120mm fans, have you got these present? cos if so that could help with air flow and keeping the gf cooler, alternatively you could point a 80/120mm fan at the card and see if that helps...

also (maybe) replace the thermal paste inbetween the heatsink on the gf with some arctic silver or soemthing :)

I havn't overclocked it yet :p WinFox just came with the card. And yeah I have fitted the 120mm fans :) Hehe, thanks for your help! I'll start having a play now, if there's anyone else who can give me more info about my PSU then please let me know! Thanks again, JamesD. :D

hehe as you said it was running 300/700 i thought that was maybe overclocked :) i'm still using a gf4 so dont know the default clocks of the fx series :)

i have one of these cards and what a beast it is

mine is currently running at 400/900 using winfox but i did do the bios flash and it worked ok got 475/950 and got some slight 2d artifacts but the rest of my comp is a bit of a let down so i just flashed it back to original bios until i pump my comp up a bit

im not sure yet as i have been looking at shuttles so may have to sell it as it wont fit in there lol
