1 Computer 2 Displays (Dual View/Multiscreen call it what you like)

So, how does one go about running a presentation on one screen and working the day job on the other. From one computer.

The machine at the minute has onboard gfx.

My main issue would be instructing powerpoint to run on a specific screen, how is this done?

If you're on onboard gfx do you have multiple outputs? If not you will need a graphics card.

No, the plan would be to buy a cheap graphics card to run along side the oboard -- providing you can do it like this.

yes you can - I actually used to run 3 screens using a dual output card and an extra PCI graphics card.
for deploy output to specific screens , ultramon is quite good , if not I'm sure its an option in powerpoint.

Re: 1 Computer 2 Displays (Dual View/Multiscreen call it what you like)

Pretty sure you can do that yeah, but any graphics card you buy is likely to have dual output's anyway which is probably the easier way to do it.

Essentially in the grpahics card properties page or in windows you can assign which monitor is number 1 and which is number 2, then you can decide whether you want two dedicated screens or one that has the start bar and the other that just has windows in it.

So you could say you want the presentation to run in the one without the start bar and be working on the one with the start bar.

You can simply drag powerpoint (when open) into the screen you want it to open in and it will always open on that screen.

Re: 1 Computer 2 Displays (Dual View/Multiscreen call it what you like)

You can usually run 2 monitors from one DVI port, that's what I do anyway. I have a 9800 AiW so it only has 1 DVI to make space for the other ports. But a DVI -> 2x DVI splitter and I run two monitors from the port . Don't know how i'd live without extended desktop to a 2nd screen tbh .
