£70 could get you an FX5200Ultra, a GeForce4 Ti4800 or maybe an ATi 9600. Personally I'd choose the Ti4800, ok so theres no DX9 support but its the most powerful out of the 3 for end performance!
As unrealrocks said, FX5200 Ultra or ATI 9600 vanilla flavour.
Personally, I'd go for the ATI Card, but whatever, I have an FX5200 Ultra in one of my machines and it's not too bad at all. Although it does require a Molex connector plug in from the PSU and it actually draws quite a fair bit of current. So make sure you have an adequate PSU if you go for that option.
The 9600 does not need that connection.
Let me know where a Ti4800 can be gotten for £70?, from what I've seen £70 buys a 2nd hand Ti4600.Quote:

Im not too sure his psu is up to major current loss via the graphics card as its a cheap pc :)
Wheres the best place to buy em you reckon?
Oh and what sort of overclockability do these cards have?

I think that a gf4 ti is a good choice. ti4800 is a ti4200 with 8x AGP support, or a 2nd hand ti4600, which would be faster than the ti4800, owning to the faster RAM.
As you say you play CS, as that is dx8 then the gf4 have no problem running it. A r9600 could also be chosen, but as it is not a pro or XT then it will be comparable performance to gf4 ti4800 (ti4600 would beat i in dx8 i believe) Although with the r9600 you do get a little dx9 support. Also a 1.7 celly i suspect would not be too good at running dx9 games.
I would personally say away from the fx5200, as it is not meant to be very good.
my overall opion: the gf4 ti4600/ti4800 would be best
Some benchies:

http://www.hothardware.com/hh_files/...nchmarks.shtml (fx5200 ultra scores only 400 more 3dmarks than a gf4 mx440 in my system (see sig)

Seeing as I just got a new 9800xt card I have a Ti4800 lying around somewhere, its a LeadTek, would sell it for 70 + PP....but did I just break the rules by saying that lol
I too would avoid the FX5200, they kinda suck, well not true, they do suck lol

If I were you I'd a 2nd hand GeForce4 Ti4200 and overclock it to 300/600 (nearly all Ti4200's can achieve this) and you'll have a card that can handle any DirectX8.1 games throw at it.
Don't go near an FX5200, worthless card.
Well, hi there Furton :D
The FX5200 sucks, it's true.
The FX5200 Ultra is sort of acceptable, it actually had a few good reviews.
But I still say ATI all the way :P
Flopps: Fancy seeing you here, I see your still the last bastion of the FX5200 "Ultra" :D
I'll Sell you a second hand gf ti4200 for £55 no problem.
Yeah get a Ti4200, they're ace cards :D But not ALL of them get to 300/600 as some guy said. Most of the 64MB versions do but the 128MB will be lucky to get that far... my MSI only makes it to ~300/535.

Ah yes, forgot to mention the 64MB clock better (usually have faster RAM as well), thanks for the reminder.
i was hoping to get somin better than my TI4200 64mb cos as it stands i can't get rock solid fps when a couple of smoke grenades go off . This is on my machine ... Dual 2800MP, 768Mb RAM, Asus Ti4200 64mb.
Info is mucho appriciated

You wont get much better than a Ti4200 for that price range mate...
What res/detail are you running Half-life at to get slowdown on your rig (which is pretty good!)?? I can run 4xAA 8xAF and TS 1024x768 V-Sync to my TFT and it never budges from 60Hz...
