my friend gave me a 9550 radeon 256MB..
I assume it would be better than the 6200 i have at the minute, so i stuck it in, turned on the pc, the pc did turn on and the blue LED that comes from the cards fan worked, but nothing came off the screen, just black, i stuck the 6200 back in and it worked again, i didnt want to take out the NVidia drivers becuase if the card didnt work (which it didnt) i lost the CD, i was wondering is it becuase i still have the old Nvidia drivers in or is the card just buggerd =]
Re: my friend gave me a 9550 radeon 256MB..
It's not the drivers as there for the os, it should still post.
Re: my friend gave me a 9550 radeon 256MB..
Sounds like the card is dead. I'd go after your friend Pulp Fiction stylee...

na it dont matter he gave it to me for nothing =] i wouldnt have paid over 10 quid for it anyway, and if it was dead the fan wouldnt come would it, (which it does along with the blue LED)
Re: my friend gave me a 9550 radeon 256MB..
sorry mate but I'm guessing now you know why he gave it you for nothing ;)
Re: my friend gave me a 9550 radeon 256MB..
dont bin it yet.....
take the heatsink off, and reapply the paste..amnd make sure none of the components under it are touching it
Why?
Cos I have seen 2 9600's that wouldn't post and both worked when I spotted the heatsnk had rocked and was touching (and earthing) a component on the under side.
On one I used insulation tape around the underside right up to the edge of where the GPU made contact. That graphics card is still running 100% rock solid 18 months later:)
Re: my friend gave me a 9550 radeon 256MB..
there isnt a heatsink on it, just a fan.

 he means take the metal block off (heatsink) and re-seat it. A fan is often on top of a heatsink to dissipate heat.

Zakkly....take it off.
Re: my friend gave me a 9550 radeon 256MB..
ah yes i see what you mean, i took off the fan with had in the middle a silver metal part in the middle which is now broken off from the fan, do you rekon now, that i reseated it and put the fan back on it will work, and just incase its a waste of time, is there any point going from a 128 6200, to a 256 9550.
