    cheap gpu

I'm looking for a cheap gpu just for until i can get an 8800gt, ~£20, pci-e. Nothing fancy, just something that would work with a 22" monitor and let me maybe play a bit of css.

    Any suggestions?

    Re: cheap gpu

It's not quite £20, but it'll work well enough

Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK, they're not bad cards for performance (my g.f's PC uses two of them in SLI at 1280x1024)

Hi RoBe I have a Gigabyte 6600GT 128Mb, Slient Heatpipe, you can have it for £20 and it should allow some playing of CS:S at medium settings. PM me if you're interested.

You've not got a high enough post count to PM

I hope that was a PCI-e and not an AGP card cptwhite.
And RoBe for only £20 you are going to have to live with playing games under native res on your 22" assumeing it's a 22" TFT monitor, not a TV or CRT, it'll be 1680x1050 native and you'll be struggling to do 1440x900 on high settings with a £20 card.

2nd hand would be the way to go as new a x1650 or 7600 is going to be around the £40 mark.

EDIT: ok cptwhite just seen your for sale thread, it is PCI-e

yeah, i realise that. I'm only really wanting it for installing the os and maybe watching a film or two until i get an 8800gt. Am I correct in saying that i could run windows at the monitor's native resolution? (yes, it's a tft)

    Re: cheap gpu

Yep no problems, only restrictions on running a desktop is card memory for res&colour depth.
1680x1050x32bit you need 8mb if my maths is right (it migh be 16mb)
My girlfriend runs 1600x1200x32bit quite happly on my old fx5200 128mb agp card.
It's only really when you dip into games or hardware dvd decodeing that you need any real graphics card power.

EDIT: a 6600gt 128mb should run most games ok at 1440x900 or 1280x800 on medium settings, yes you'll get some bluring but it's not that bad and eaiser to live with bluring untill you get a new card than slideshow frame rates and no bluring.
