    8800GTX - antialiasing doesn't seem to work...

    Hi all,

Got my 8800GTX installed at the weekend. Lovely card, performance is fantastic at 1920x1200. Only thing is I can't seem to get antialiasing in games.

I've only tried STALKER and HL2: Lost Coast so far since i had to reinstall XP as well but in the NVidia driver control panel I've left the Antialiasing set to "Application Controlled". In either game it doesn't matter what setting I put the antialiasing at it never seems to look any different; diagonal lines still look jagged, or stepped. Do I need to set this in the NVidia control panel or am I missing something else?

    Cheers in advance

Im not sure if this is the reason why you are having problems but the rest of your system is a MAJOR bottleneck for that card.

Try some different drivers - sometimes the odd release doesn't have full functionality.

Also test on a basic game that doesn't have any SM3.0 stuff first.

Have you tried setting antialiasing using the in-game settings?

(don't know about STALKER), in Half Life 2, it may have defaulted to not using AA - try checking the graphics options screen

Re: 8800GTX - antialiasing doesn't seem to work...

The latest (several) nVidia Drivers seem to have removed the antialiasing option from the mini nVidia control panel in the System tray - you now have to set them (I set it as a Global entry) in the full Comtrol panel. If you have trouble finding it.... let me know and I will give more detailed instructions tonight when I get home.
Try to make each and every day the best it can be.

I know, the old motherboard was an Asus A8V with an AGP slot and the graphics card was a Radeon X800XL. I couldn't afford a new motherboard, graphics card, CPU and memory just now so got the Foxconn board cheap to allow me to get a new gfx card now, I'll be getting a proper mobo, CPU and memory next year.

That's what I have been trying, the in-game options for antialiasing. Can't remember what the default on HL2:LC was but it doesn't seem to make any difference setting it in the game.

Hadn't tried setting it in the NVidia control panel yet, will give that a shot.

Cheers so far all, will post back here once I've tried these...

Re: 8800GTX - antialiasing doesn't seem to work...

Well I went into the NVidia control panel and forced AA and AF to maximum settings and now it works in games. No idea why but setting both to "Application Controlled" and using the settings within the games themselves doesn't work but at least I can use the per-application settings if I need to. Both Stalker and HL2:LC played perfectly smoothly at 1920x1200 with max AA and max AF tho so don't feel any need to run them any lower just now HL2:LC video stress test averaged about 55fps with those settings and Stalker never felt anything less than silky smooth so I'm happy with this card
