Yeah, one thing I've noticed about GPUs over the years, they really do a bad job of TIM application in the factory. And it's usually pretty rubbish stuff.

true true, my 7900gtx looks like theres white cardboard between it and the heatsink. changing the paste wont void warranty though will it?

    Not if they don't look

Although changing the HSF will void the warranty more surely.

yes it's a stupid temperature but then again, ATI tool stresses the card out to it's max, for me thats unacceptable, plus I want to volt mod the card lol

We are assuming that temp reading is accurate, if the GT uses even a slightly different way of reporting the temperature it could be way out.

    Re: Nice 8800GT temperature :)

true, but why would it use any other way of temp reporting like the other cards. With a single slot I kinda expected it but hoped it wasn't true. For example my 6600gt from bfg, teeny cooler on it. single slot bla bla. It loads into windows at a toasty 58C, whereas my 7900GTX from bfg double slot cooler with a 92mm fan boots in at 38C.

I dont think they are making these graphics cards efficient nowadays. It just seems to be crank up the power and heat for more performance

    Re: Nice 8800GT temperature :)

LOL, I remember my 6600GT it was made by XFX, fkn hell, that card used to piss me off, everytime I loaded up a game it used to shoot up within a matter of seconds to over 75 degrees, I then was so concerned that I bought an infrared thermometer, ran ATI tool for half an hour in an open case environment and the card was 72 degrees, the driver was reporting it at 95 degrees, lol, I send XFX a lenghty email and they pinned the blame to nVidia, as they are just the packagers.

Anyways, to the 8800GT, this card is indeed very efficient, as the 8800 parts have 80% cache and 20% core logic, this one has a lot more core logic and a faster cache, on a smaller die, I can't seem to find the TDP of the card anywhere yet, I assume it's going to be near a 7900GTX ~110-130W, I'm going to get a HR-03 when I get my card, later this week

How do we even know this is a 8800GT, there is nothing on the screenshot to prove it is other than the clock speeds which match the GT's.

haha the 6600GT, i've still got mine, a Gigabyte silent heatpipe edition, it goes up to 110C when playing a 3D game!

On the look out for an 8800GT or the new GTS around Nov 19th :s
