    BFG Naming - GT GTX

    Hi,

could someone explain the BFG naming schema to me, more so in light of the 8800's new cards coming out.

I was always under the impression that the GTX was better than the GT and the "OC" extention was just overclocked verion of the card.

Re: BFG Naming - GT GTX

The refresh GTX will be comprehensively better than the GT but the GT as is nips at the heels of the current GTX as it uses the new core.

Re: BFG Naming - GT GTX

so the current 8800 GT is smidgen behind the current 8800 GTX - but the refresh will help it leap forward again.

What about the other GT$ cards ? the GTS for example

what he said, and yea the OC is just overclocked cards, OC2 etc. GT seems to be a great card to get. No more blocking those PCI slots with those double slot coolers.

GTS is also due a refresh and will retain it's position between the GT and GTX, but as it stands the GT is better than the current GTS

Re: BFG Naming - GT GTX

Daft question i'm sure, but how will we know which is which, i mean the old GTX and the new, will there be some clear definition, i assume there will be a price divide and eventually the older ones will be filtered out, but in the meanwhile?

Old GTS and GTX are/will be EOL so you won't be able to buy them when stock runs out.

That might not be the case, there's rumours that the GTS refresh will still be using the same boards and they'll just unlock one of the stream processor modules that's cut out when the board is made from a GTX.

No, GTOs were GTXs that had been recalled due to faults, and the memory clocked lower (I think it was 1320MHz rather than 1600MHz)..... the cards will be, in order of greatness after the refreshes, GT, GTS, GTX.

I thought that the new gts will be 65 nm like the gt is as well as unlocking the extra streams.

Re: BFG Naming - GT GTX

It wouldn't make sense if it didn't use the new chip.

The GT would still have the edge.
