    Aftermarket cooler for 8800GT

Anyone know if there are any aftermarket coolers that fit the 8800GT? I can't be doing with the single slot, hot and slightly noisy design. I want cool and quiet.

I did read that the 8800GT has holes in its pcb very similar to the high end 7 series cards. Would an old 7 series cooler work?

I order my 8800GT from eBuyer this morning, but I'll get grief about the noise no doubt.

    Re: Aftermarket cooler for 8800GT

I think it might need a little more than just a 7 series cooler

That a pic of the new sparkle 8800gt slient, not only does it have the heat pipes leading away from the gpu but also has the addition of what looks like a large cooling plate connecting the ram to the pipes aswell (could be additional pipes from the memory as well?)
Makes me wonder if standad heatsinks will be enough for the memory?

Other alternative is probably to try get hold of an 8800gts cooler, know anyone who moved to water cooling?

none officially listed with support, but I've seen a VF900 and HR-03 (non-plus) mounted with no problem.

    Re: Aftermarket cooler for 8800GT

I've read (in VRZone I suppose) that the 8800GT has very similar (if not the same) mounting holes as 7800GTX card, so that VF900 fits well.

It may fit, but I am not so sure it will cool it adequately?? get a cooler designed for the 8800 series.

get a cooler designed for the 8800 series.
I wasn't aware of any designed for the 8800 except water blocks

I think HR-03 rev.A [not plus] could fit on 8800gt - XtremeSystems Forums

the VF900 is shown in one of the reviews, the expreview website or whatever.

since the non-plus HR-03 fits, I'm willing to bet almost any heatsink with the same mounting holes will fit.

However, there are only a few I would trust to cool the 8800GT, Zalman VF900 (borderline), Zalman VF1000, Arctic Cooling S1 (plus fan), Thermalright HR-03

    Re: Aftermarket cooler for 8800GT

Thermaltake have released a new cooler for the 8 series called the Duorb which basically looks like two Zalman VF900s side by side and from the reviews it's about the same noise as the stock cooler on an 8800GTX but a good 17 degrees cooler at idle. Well it's enough to lure me into buying one if I get it soon I'll let you know how it works and how good it is

    Re: Aftermarket cooler for 8800GT

I have an unused Accelero S1 which I will be trying on there at the weekend, I will post back with pictures if it works, or doesn't work.

Would be a good silent solution if it does work. Just got to wait to get down to Brighton at the weekend from manchester as my system is down there and I am up here.

    Re: Aftermarket cooler for 8800GT

Very intresting read, looks like a cooler designed fot the 8800gts/gtx/ultra will not fit on the 8800gt without modding.
But a 8600gtx cooler fits without any modding.

Anyone found an image of the 8800gt cooler without it's cover?

    Re: Aftermarket cooler for 8800GT

lol I found one my self about 5min after posting that
Tech ARP - NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT Graphics Card Review
That appears to be the actuall nvidia stock cooler.
Intresting that they've gone for a different blower design.
    eg 8800gts fan
from that densely packed small bladed to fewer longer blades, also intresting that the blower is a much larger diameter than the hole it has for drawing in air.

the more I see of this stock cooler the less I like it

I (possibly wrongly) assumed that the Thermalright HR-03 Plus would do the job, but it is still listed as only Compatible with Nvidia GeForce 8800GTX& 8800GTS &8800 Ultra video cards.

No doubt an updated version (if required) will soon be available.

If you want to find out if any of the current revisions of the HR03 are compatible with the 8800 GT just email Thermalright i'm sure they will let you know! Or send me your 8800 GT and i'll fit my HR03 to it to check for you
