    8800gt price

Yet again it seems Europe has to pay more for the same product.

    In nvidias press releases

on the .com version the 8800gt is said to be $199 to $259 (£96 - £126)
    on the .co.uk version the 8800gt is said to be €199 to €259 (£139 - £181)

    please note current currency conversions
    1.00 EUR = 1.44255 USD

even if you give them the benefit of the doubt and add taxes, 44% is a bit steep

I was looking forward to the release of the 8800gt as I needed to update my gfx but now I am not so sure.

yes I just saw this one, at least they are being released at the same time and we don't have to wait a month or two before the new stuff filters down to us.

I am in the same boat as you!! To add insult to injury many sites had it listed for around 140 to 150 quid! However they then decided to hike it to 170-180 quid because of all the eager fanboys who are willing to pay above the odds for a shiny new bit of kit!!!!

Don't worry though!! When ATI releases its new DX10 graphics cards in the next few weeks hopefully they will be competitive in performance and hence drive prices down!!

    Re: 8800gt price

It is bad. I suspect alot of etailers know that the card is better than a gts and are pricing accordingly. Hopefully prices will drop a little as more cards become available. I'm going to start looking at Euro prices and see if anyone ships to the UK from the mainland.

Mass price fixing if you ask me!! I thought there were laws to stop these sort of things- maybe I am wrong then?!

    Re: 8800gt price

Now if we were talking electricity or gas then maybe the would be an argument that price fixing would be adverse to the consumer as on the whole those are things that in the modern world most people can not live without.

But for a graphics card nah, if people were not prepared to pay the premium then the cost would be lower, simple. Therefore by that logic the card is worth what the sellers are asking for it. They (the retailers) are in this business to make money if that means that for the first couple of weeks the cards are more expensive and only those people who can't wait can afford/want to buy them then the simple answer is wait a couple of weeks and I'm sure if they are overpriced at the moment then the cost will come down.

Then again they are being sold for less than £180 including VAT, thats still in the suggested retail range, perhaps a 256MB card will be released at the lower end of the price scale shortly who knows!

    Re: 8800gt price

Obviously they want to get rid of the old GTS cards and still get a return on them, so hopefully once that's done the GT prices will come down. But it is very annoying never-the-less.
