380W SmartPower PSU and 8800 gt?
Hi guys,
I have a 380W SmartPower PSU that came with the Antec NSK4400 Mini Tower Case I brought a while back and was wondering if this would be enough power to run an 8800 gt.
My current specs are
300+ Athlon 64 s939
1 GB 3200 ddr ram
160 GB HDD
7300 GT Nvidia
on board sound card
DVD writer.
Thanks for the input
Re: 380W SmartPower PSU and 8800 gt?
Umm are you sure? I thought it was the earthwatt psu that came with the nsk4400
Also backed up by the Smartpower being 350w or 400w, there's no 380w smartpower model (well none listed on the antec website)
The EarthWatts does come in 380w and has a max load on the the +12v of 27a Specs Link
SO if it's the earthwatts 380w PSU you should be OK
EDIT the SmartPower 400w is only 21a on the +12v so if it's a SmartPower it probably will not (open up you case and check)
Re: 380W SmartPower PSU and 8800 gt?
Thanks for the reply.
I brought this case from OCUK about a year ago and it said SmartPower on the invoice.
I'll check out what the max load on the +12v is tonight, what sort of figure will I need for an 8800GT?
Thanks again
Re: 380W SmartPower PSU and 8800 gt?
24a on the combined +12v rail I think, remember that adding up all the +12v rails isn't equal to the max on the combined +12v decent PSU will have that listed aswell (or on there website).
Re: 380W SmartPower PSU and 8800 gt?
Bump - did you manage to powerup a 8800gt with your psu?
Re: 380W SmartPower PSU and 8800 gt?
I think it would work actually (though I am not familiar with 'SmartPower' series). Might depend on how high the A64 is clocked. But while I am not one who suggest 750W PSU and such, I think it's beginning to push it here.
Re: 380W SmartPower PSU and 8800 gt?
I didn't end up buying a 8800gt. Since the new 8800gts seem to be really fast and are out soon I think I'll wait a while and do a more complete upgrade (maybe cpu, mobo, ram, psu and gfx)
Sorry I didn't test it out for you.
Re: 380W SmartPower PSU and 8800 gt?
just look at some reviews i've senn most review maxing out on the power at 315w
that said is your psu continuos 350w or peak 350w?
i think it will run fine
Re: 380W SmartPower PSU and 8800 gt?
Found out that my psu is this one:
Antec SU380 power supply (in NSK2400 case) | silentpcreview.com
The +12V max load says 336Watts.
So P = I x V means that
336 = I x 12 -> so 28a on the combined 12v??
Can anyone see if this is right?
Cheers
Re: 380W SmartPower PSU and 8800 gt?
yep Max 28a on the combined +12v it should cope with witha 8800GT or the new 8800GTS 512mb (g92 gpu) but I still think you'll be cutting it close.
Best bet is try it and see, if it switches off or gets really unstable you've gone over load. (as it's made by Seasonic you shouldn't lose any bits to the PSU)
