AMD and ATi releases...
Just wondering if anyone has any idea when the AMD 64 3700+ will be released? Yeah, I've read the article and seen that it'll be during Q2 this year, but just wondering if it's gonna be early or late in that period? Also any ideas on a new ATi chipset? The 9800xt has surely pushed the (R300 I think) as far as it's gonna go, therefore, will we be getting any new high end cards from ATi manufacturers during the first half of 2004?

R420 GPU's HAVE been shipped to the manufacturers already :)
-
the r300 can go further - there just going to rename it first to R420. its basicly the same as the cores used in the 9700/9800 except theyve added dx9.1 stuff to it, and made it smaller by making it 0.13 instead of 0.15, which should allow it to run colder and clock a lot higher. i wouldnt be suprised if with watercooling (like mine) one could probably reach 700-800mhz on core, THAT WOULD BE FAST!!!! the downside is that there likely to cost as much, if not slightly more thna the 9800XT cost atm, but will proably be cheaper than nvidias new offering, hopefully :)

You can bet that ID, Epic, and a few other game devs have been sitting on next-gen cards for some time.
-
i must emphasise "long time" when i mension Duke Nukem Forever, they must be getting cramp in their buttocks the amount of next-gen cards they have been sitting on :P
-
umm, hasnt that been in development for 34 years now ?
-
yes Duke Nukem Forever i would love to see this all souped up on a DX9 Card.
Surely the R420 Core will be more then a Speed bump
-
it will be more, but its still based around atis very good r300 cores, with lots of very nice improvments :)
-
i think the delays of the next - gen games has the manufacturers worried, there seems to be no point in a r420 when they're released (apart from the 'must have best') crowd, as the r300 prices will drop. Anyone fancy picking a 9800 xt for £150? hehe
-
exactly, I wouldn't mind a killer graphics card like the 9800 xt for £150, but it's never gonna happen, well, not for ages I guess...
I was just making sure that the 9800 cards weren't going to plummet in price in the near future.
