New GFX card

Hey guys, a friend recommended me to come here for advice so let's give this a whirl!

Basically I've got an Nvidia Geforce 7600 GT which im fairly happy with and i use it for gaming pretty much daily. It's fairly intense gaming graphically as I love my PC games to look sexy. Now I've had the thing about a year and a few months, and it's started to slow down.. turns out a power cable that should have been shipped with it.. unbeknown to me.......... wasnt! So I think I've killed it

So yeah I'm after a new GFX card, I need dual DVI outputs since I run a dual monitor system. I would like it to be PCI-E x16, don't care if needs power or not..... ermm.. tv out would be nice as I use that sometimes.
I was looking at this:

<can't post URL cos of new member thingie... it's a Radeon X1650 Pro, go look on dabs.com they have one there!>

Basically I don't want to go far above £50, so I want something that can perform ok... obviously the more performance it can give the better, but I don't want to break the bank!

Any suggestions on what to go for?
Thanks in advance all you fellow internet/computer geeks!

Not much above £50? What about this:

Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK

just for a change....

Or if you want to stretch your budget a bit:

Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK

You may want to think about second hand as you will get more for your money..... should be able to get a 7800GT which absolutely blows away the 7600s........

Or maybe one of these

Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK

probably more bang for your buck than the older 7600 GT and probably only 1 step below the x1950GT but for £20 less.

or one of these less i be accused of favouring ATI

Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK

but make sure its the GDDR3 model the GDDR2 is apparently a lot slower and not worth the money!

the suped up 7600GT... i bet that gets STUPIDLY hot very quickly yes? lol how dangerous would it be to have in a case without proper cooling... i mean... im just using basic fans and I leave the side off................. but I get the feeling that thing could melt my PCs insides!

the sapphire...... cant afford it.

the HD thing thats red with flames? Looks cool but who's it actually made by? I would rather have one from a reputable manufacturer who I can yell it if something goes wrong!

Re: New GFX card

I know ebay has its problems, but there are some real bargains going on it.

I just recently bought a 7900GTO on it for £61!!

Look around for the 7900gtx,7900gs/gt, 7950gt, 7900gto, x1900s, x1950,etc. Since the 8800gt came out I have noticed a serious decrease in the price of these cards.

The HD 2600 cards are ATI speced, that particular one was made by Power Color and they are a reputable brand for ATI cards, they tend to be no frills (no games etc packaged with the card) but cheaper. Also on Scan is one made by Sapphire about the same price, again a reasonable brand (ATI's biggest distributor/partner I think).

Re: New GFX card

Just to take a step backwards, slowing down sounds like either a software/driver issue or a thermal issue. Your 7600GT may well still be usable.

Do you know what temperature it is reaching? You should be able to get a temperature monitoring page in the driver screen, or on recent drivers using the ntune package.

It could also be the CPU slowing down rather than the GPU, they both should have thermal throttling built in. Is there dust in either of the heatsinks that you can blow out?

Nah, the cooling should be adequate, looks pretty good, and don't froget you get a 2 year warranty should there be any problems I'd still go for a second hand high-end 7 series or ati 1900/1950 card. Will absolutely nail the others in DX9......

Re: New GFX card

For 50 quid I can't see much better than your 7600GT. You may want to wait and see if the impending round of card refreshes has an impact on this price point.

Back to the original problem, if it's the 6-pin PCI Express power cable that you were missing, then you'd normally get a warning when you power up stating that the gfx system is underpowered and may not perform upto scratch. I can't really see you killing the card because of it.

You could always try one of these though...
