ATI 3000 range prices at OcUK

Fudzilla are reporting that Overclockers managed to "accidentally" show their prices for the 3850 and 3870, though they've now disappeared from the site.

    Apparently they'll be selling the 256M 3850 for £123.39 and the 512M 3870 for £158.91.

If that's true then they're not bad prices.

    Details here:

Now we need some numbers for those cards. I like the idea of lower power consumption, which potentially could mean quieter card. But we'll have to see if that end up being the case.

If nVidia don't get their 8800GT stock problems sorted ATi have a chance of really hurting them with these cards. I expect they will be 10-20 quid cheaper at other places and if the performance is within the same range as the nVidia cards it'd be a good purchase (I'm not fussed about 5-10% difference in speed - it's not going to be enough to make a game suddenly playable/unplayable).

Re: ATI 3000 range prices at OcUK

So, it looks like the stock-speed 512MB card will be about the same price as the super-superclocked eVGA 8800GT from eVGA's own site (the SSC eVGA is about $299; I figured the HD3870 to be about $305 or so based on currency conversions). Thats a point in nVidia's favor...I can get a superclocked card for about two dollars cheaper than the 512MB HD3870. If the performance numbers are about the same, I'd still say the GT is the better deal in all but DirectX 10.1 compatibility. Granted the stock problems are annoying, but I can't afford the rest of my parts quite yet anyways...

Oh if only prices and currency conversion was so easy, but we in Europe just get ripped off on hardware and software, period.

Your eVGA 8800GT Superclocked costs around £192.69 over here in Dear Old Blighty, around £35 more expensive than a 3870XT, plus according to the below linked article, manufacturers might be given free range to oc the 3000 series as much as they can, for just a few dollars more:

Unlikely, as OcUK are usually very competitive on price.

Re: ATI 3000 range prices at OcUK

Yeah, if they're the only ones to have stock, then they'll charge more (just like when the started taking pre-orders for Vista when everyone else was doing as Microsoft asked and not posting prices), but it looks as if stock is going to be pretty decent from the off.

I'm not quoting even a semi-reliable source here, but Gibbo from OcUK is supposed to have overclocked his to be around 8800GTX speeds, though I can't believe it's true else ATi will have released a high-clocked card to compete with the GTX and Ultra. Still, it does look like it's going to overclock for fun.

Conversely the 3850Pro is looking very poor value for money. I suppose if it clocks up to 3850XT speeds it won't be too bad if you game at low resolutions (say 1280xwhatever or lower), but otherwise the 256mb of memory is just going to be too much of a burden.

Re: ATI 3000 range prices at OcUK

Well, with the price point confirmed more or less, will these actually come close enough to an 8800GT to justify buying them?

Any guesses as to when the NDA is due to expire?

Tomorrow apparently, probably around 1pm GMT. As I've already said, I'll be buying one of these over the 8800s anyway, as there are things that matter a hell of a lot more than a couple of FPS to me. There's not going to be much in performance by the looks of it, but if you're into overclocking the GPU you'd have to choose between the 8800GTS or 3870XT by the looks of it.

    I stand corrected.

Well, if they're not cheap any more, why does anybody use OcUK?
