Re: Nvidia 9800 due in feb

If this is true then the 8 series will have been quite a short-lived flagship, but nVidia's release cycles never have been totally regular, with some series being superceded quickly, often after a change of DX version (the 5 series , which was the first DX9 core, was quickly superceded by the 6 series). If this is the case it will serve to further extend nVidia's lead in graphics products as ATi still havnt properly caught up with 8 series products that nVidia released last year.

Strange bringing out new midrange 8800's so soom before a new GPU. Still I guess the the new GT and GTS's are getting too close to the GTX/Ultra to maintain the premium price for the top cards.

Re: Nvidia 9800 due in feb

I get the feeling they released the 8800gt just to grab the midrange market (which was crap before the 8800gt) just to stop the new ATi cards from stealing it from under them.

Re: Nvidia 9800 due in feb

The GTXs and Ultras *have* will have been out for about a year come Feb. or March...in that light, new 9-series cards being released makes a bit of sense (since initially, it would only be high-end cards, one would figure, considering only the real hardcore users are the early adopters for the high-end stuff, and the mid-range GT and GTS have just resently come out to cater to the rest of the crowd. Its only a rumor, but a reasonable one. We'll just have to wait and see.

Re: Nvidia 9800 due in feb

Yep, the 9800s will come out taking over the top spot. The GTX and Ultra will be discontinued, leaving the 8800GT and GTS as the mid-high range cards.
