Direct X 10 vs 10.1

I'm thinking of getting the 8800 GT (512MB) but part of me is thinking, wait for the '9' series cards to come out that are DirectX 10.1 certified. I'm currently abusing a 7950GT, which runs all the games I'm playing pretty good (GoW, COD4 & Crysis), but to be honest I'd like to get a tad more out of GoW and especially Crysis!

I'm not 'that' bothered but that's because I don't really know what differences I could expect from DirectX 10.1 compared to 10 - is there likely to be anything significant?

I've had a bit of a 'Google' on the subject but can't really find anything conclusive - I'm not even going to consider ATI - have had many bad experiences with them and Linux support schtinks!

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Most of the DX10.1 extensions are for GPGPU use, and to remove the need for vendor specific code. So it's mostly a back-end change that will take a few years to be implemented into apps, it wont do anything for your gaming experience. Not that it isn't a very positive update. AMD's Linux support has changed greatly in the last few months, they're not quite up to nVidia's level of driver support, but they're getting there.

Fed up with lack of AA in titles like Bioshock, UT3 and other UE3 games? That's where 10.1 comes in. *If* programmers decide to use it, I think the first think it'll do is add AA to deffered rendering engines.

Agreed, I play at 1680x1050 and I see jagged edges sometimes on Bioshock. The trouble is, as games start looking better and better these adges seems to be easyier to see, and my eyes just jump 2 them!
