    X1950 Pro Overclock

hi, i have Vista Ultimate and was looking for an application that would allow me to overclock my x1950 Pro (512mb gddr3). i am not entirely sure which edition it is but on the box, it says sapphire... anyway, what is the best application to overclock this gfx card with? i have heard of AtiTool but on their website it says both that:

Full support for all ATI and NVIDIA cards. Only X1950 Pro overclocking is not supported.

    &

ATITool will only work on Windows 2000/XP/2003 (64 bit versions are supported)

thanks a lot for any help. this is the first time i have ever tried to overclock. thanks.

ATI Tray Tools runs on Vista, allows a lot of tweakery and has a far smaller footprint than CCC.

    Re: X1950 Pro Overclock

I tried using ATITool on my HIS 1950, it fell over straight away.

Then used Catalyst Overclocking facility, and it was fine.

Its in the overdrive section, you might have to change to the advanced view and the click the lock sign to unlock the overclocking feature.

    Re: X1950 Pro Overclock

ok, i found it and allowed me to clock from 574/688 to 621/796 but doing so did not really give me a speed increase. i did not even realise that it was overclocked. what can i do to get a more noticeable framerate increase?

    Re: X1950 Pro Overclock

Buy a new graphics card. Overclocking is not going to give you a fantastically noticeable increase unless it's a very special card we're talking about. Recent examples of which would be the 6800GT which overclocked to Ultra speeds, the X800GT2 which unlocked to almost double the performance (X850XTPE), and the 7900GTo which I believe achieved 7900GTX speeds and above fairly easily.

The X1950Pro isn't known as an overlcockers card and it's pretty most at it's limit at stock, so I think you've done pretty well to overclock to the speeds you've listed.

    Re: X1950 Pro Overclock

thanks for the compliment. also, i know this is slightly off topic, but i have an ageing p4 3.0ghz which i am looking to overclock aswell. what is the best program to do this? i would love to be able to do this through the BIOS but the fact i have a dell doesn't help. i am sure i should be able to get something out of my CPU as sometimes it gets cold enough to switch of its fans completely. thanks again.
