Want my Shuttle to be able to HD out to my HDTV, the current 7600Gt is a nice card but stutters even on HD trailers so HD movies are a no go :/

HD 2400 me thinks..
Me want Ultrabook
The 7x00s can't do HD decoding, so it was all down to the CPU to do it, and if the HD was higher than 720p then you'd need a dual-core to do it. My Athlon 146 couldn't do it, but my X2 can.
I'd get an HD2400 too - there's a few AGPs around, though not found a passive one on the first page of Google UK results.
//edit: OK, so I lied - last 2 results yielded this and according to the Sapphire site, this is too. Also got this which while being rather large, is definitly single-slot, whereas I'm not sure on the other 2.
//edit2: oh bugger, they're PCIe. Stupid false Google results.
//edit358: Again according to the Sapphire site (here) this is AGP and passive.

2400 is a great card for video, does seem to only come in fan rather than passive on agp for some reason.
Wonder if theres any passive options for it as it'll be loud as buggery in the shuttle case, unless I get the dremel out
The 7600 gets hottish but its stable which is the main thing I guess....
Other option is to ditch the shuttle all together and use the 360 for streaming media to the TV but then theres the issue about using something like TVarsity where I really want something that'll pull straight from the NAS, damn MS and there lack of foresight when it comes to NAS boxes
Check edit #358 of my post (edited after you posted). Apparently it is passive and AGP. Just hope it only takes up 1 slot, but I doubt you'll find any reviews of such a niche card.
XP2500 Barton, not really upto decoding HD under MCE2005, would try that Linux from the other thread a while back but cant see it making that much difference.
no, probably not.
there are three codecs in common use for HD:
h264
wmv9
mpeg2
no nvidia agp card will accelerate decoding wmv9 (pcie cards will though). your existing card will accelerate h264 and mpeg2 decoding
i'm unable to confirm whether ati's agp cards have any restrictions, as they lack an easy-to-use matrix like the nvidia site - they claim all avivo cards accelerate all three hd codecs, but nvidia's chips are capable of that too (but presumably due to drm, they're not allowed to on agp)
Hopefully the HD2400 will do, just means I'll have to get the dremel out on the side of the case a bit, unless MS decide that NAS support on the 360's worth putting in an update :/
