looking to get new Dell 3008, but which GPU has display port?

    Hi peeps,

looking to treat myself to a upgrade since the warranty on my 2405fpw is going to run out soon. Just want the heads up on which GPU to go for if I want to run a displayport connection from a HTPC.

    Dell 3008WFP

any recommendations or dates for next gen GPU's?

Why is display port coming in? I spent a lot of money on my 2007wfp, and I hope GFX cards will continue to provide DVI.

well since all ati and nvidia cards can still use a VGA cable with an adapter i dont think you have anything to worry about for a looooong time

DVI will be here for a long time yet no worries..but since I am gonna be investing in a new mon I thought I see if I can get display port as well.

Got a while till its out in UK I think so got some time to wait and see if ATI/Nvidia release their new range supporting displayport.

then again not the end of the world, a 3870 passive via DVI will be more than ok for HTPC.

    Dell 3008WFP
Sapphire/MSI are bringing out Display Port GPUs soon. I believe they're both 8800GT models. More manu's will follow, and so will more models.

Also, sorry if I'm telling people to suck eggs, but the 3008 doesn't have DisplayPort, according to your link, but both the DVI and HDMI ports should be "adapter compatible".

Again, the 8800GT models mentioned above are either HERE, or about a week away. Wish I could find the source for this... (hmmm. Will look.)

DisplayPort is coming in for one main reason, it's open standards based (3rd bullet point), with resulting benefits. There are a few technical leaps, but, conceivably, HDMI 1.4 could play catch-up.
As mentioned above, I'd be VERY suprised if you can't get a DVI-to-DP adapter, v quickly after launch, so I think your 2007wfp will be safe for a little while. Bear in mind though that if you don't have a HDCP-enabled DVI port, then you're going to have a 'lil trouble putting (protected) Hi-Def material through your system. (Not saying it's impossible, but I don't want to digress.)

    check the specs list,

    Linky

    Connector Type
Analog, DVI-D (Digital) with HDCP, HDMI, S-Video, Component, Composite, DisplayPort

did a bit more reading myself, by the time the monitor is out in UK, I am pretty sure there be a few GPU's which have displayport.

    thanks peeps
