Crossfire X1950 Pro's or 8800GTX
Hi looking for some advice,
I currently have 2 x X1950 pro's (512mb) but have built a system for my brother with an 8800GTX that is rapid. Would it be worth me selling my X1950's and upgrading to a 8800GTX, they are currently going for about £210 on overclockers.co.uk! My specs are:
CPU - E6700
MB - Asus P5W DH Deluxe
4 x 1GB Geil PC6400 800MHz Low Latency Ram @ 4.4.4.12
2 x X1950pro' in crossfire
2 x 200GB Seagate SATA2 HDD's
Antec 900 case
Coolermaster RealPower 550W
26" Widescreen TFT Monitor
Thanks for your help.

Not sure on the pricing for them but i would've thought the new g92 versions of the GTS might also be a candidate?

Re: Crossfire X1950 Pro's or 8800GTX
I tried this recently; I had 2x 1950pro 256Mb cards, crssfired, in an Intel Badaxe mobo; great 3DMark 06 scores (8770 3d marks, default settings vs 5244 3d marks, single card) BUT in games, perfomance was poor; slower in Crysis, Jericho... mind thats at 1280x1024 res. Perhaps at higher res...? But I'd rather have a quick single card than 2x slower cards. Replaced em with an 8800GT 512mb card, gets 11394 3dmarks (stock clocks), gives the afore mentioned games a beating.
1950pro - good card, if you're on a budget. 8800-series? Worth the wonga.
Bob.

If you can get a 8800GTX for for £210 then it's a bargin. :)
otherwise the new 8800gts 512mb would be one to look at.
Re: Crossfire X1950 Pro's or 8800GTX
Or as Fraps says 2x 3850s (512MB) in Crossfire will be similar to a 8800 GTS 512MB and you could get the 3850s for £103 each from Aria.
Re: Crossfire X1950 Pro's or 8800GTX
In this case I would say single card > 2 cards. Get the GTX or new GTS 512Mb.
