Hi all,
My mate is thinking of getting a new graphics card to replace his 6800GT, as someone at work is selling a 2600Pro.
They're both 256mb cards, but I'm not sure how they'll compare gaming wise?
Thanks.

about the same really.. 6800GT has some areas which are a wee bit better, say OpenGL games but mostly they trade blows.
However, given that, both cards are rather slow in today's category..
Me want Ultrabook
I assume that he has a PCI-Express motherboard??
Ebuyer sell a 7900GS which is faster than both cards for £59.99 delivered:
Nvidia 7900GS 256MB DDR3 Dual DVI TV Out PCI-E Graphics Card - Ebuyer
They also sell a 7600GT for £47.99 delivered:
Zotac 7600GT 256mb GDDR3 DVI TV-Out PCI-E Graphics Card - Ebuyer
You can use this comparison chart to gauge the relative performance of the cards:

Thanks for the link.
He wants to game, and get HD functionality, so at least the 2600 card has added oomph in that department.
Cheers
2600 will do better with HD stuff and will offload most jobs off the CPU
but don't count on it to do any very decent gaming tho.. today's games will probably run on low-medium at best.. and none of the extras like AA or AF..
but if he's only after older titles, then they shud be 'ok'..
Me want Ultrabook
My GF's system still has my old 6800GT in it - runs Oblivion, NWN2, The Witcher, TDU all fine on medium settings. I'm constantly surprised at how well it does
6800gt is a quality card, I recommend the 3850 pro 512
Take a look at the futuremark ORB (online results browser) you can get some idea of how
things stack up against each other.

I was just going to say that the 7600gt is roughly the same performance as the 6800gt
The 7900gs or x1900pro are still great performers for a budget
There's very few things that will not run happly at 1280x1024 on high settings + AAx2 & AFx8
That said upping the budget will hold out better in the long run.
