    new nVidia mx 4000

just found this at www.aria.co.uk today only section.
so whats it all about then? it doesn't appear on the nVidia site when I look for a bit more info on it...
the one on offer appears to be a generic brand, 128mb and less than £40...
    mem/core speeds at 333/275...

is nVidia hitting back at the budget market with something marginly better than ati's currently on offer?

    Hey

I think its just a GeForce4 MX 440 that has been rebranded to the MX4000...? Someone correct me if I am wrong!

    Cheers,

it has the word MX in it...therefore only useful as some sort of firestarter, and even then its probably not much good

No its definately a real card... just a question of which GF4 MX model they rebranded to 4000 (its either 420, 440 or 460).

they support dx8.1 apparently, gf2/4 MX models only supported dx7, so it has to be either a fx5200 with dx9 disabled, or more likely just a very underclocked ti4200...

maybe dx8 support just means the drivers are dx8 compatable? i doubt it though.. usually it has to have hardware suport for an api for it to be listed....

They can't disable the FX5200 anymore than they already have can they?

Yeah - I wondered about that - so either GF3/GF4 (non-MX) based or GF4MX (really GF2 based) with icky software drivers for DX8 parts (pixel / vertex shaders). Now that would be slow... Or it could be that it's really just DX7 and the specs are wrong.

After abit of googling, it looks like just a rehash of the gf4mx 400.

It says that it has vertex shaders. For < £40 I'm betting it's still crap though!
