no temperature reading for a 8800gt

If anyone can help I would be very grateful.

I've purchased a xpertvision 8800gt 512 but can not get a temp reading with ntune or any other 3rd party software. I know other people have had similar problems with the asus version but have sorted it with smartdoctor but this program is only for asus cards.

My card looks pretty much identical to the asus version (enlarged fan) but obviously is the xpertvision/palet version. I have looked on xpertvision and palet's website for any info or equiverlent dls like smartdoctor but with no luck.

The card works fine and is fairly quite but it would be nice to know the temp especially if I fancy overclocking. If anyone has had the same problem or knows any solutions, it would be really helpful.

Re: no temperature reading for a 8800gt

I think that is the same as the Palit 8800GT
If I am correct there may be a program on the installation CD called VDOTool.
If you run that and go to fan control it gives the temperatures.
Just to add - I have the Palit 8800GT Sonic and the temperature has never gone above 60 deg C even when playing Crysis in DX10 at 1680 x 1050

Re: no temperature reading for a 8800gt

cheers for the info Oldjim. I've extensively browsed the cd that came with the card but there is no other programs apart from the drivers and xpertvision's tbpanel which has very basic features. I searched online for vdotool but could not find a dl url.

Following this I went on gainwards site because I believe palet/xpertvision are satelites of gainward and downloaded their overclocking tool but it's just tbpanel with a different
    skin, so no help there.

There must be a way of getting the temp of this card, I can't believe it has no temperature sensors on the card.

Re: no temperature reading for a 8800gt

    Hi,

Just got my Xpertvision 8800Gt from Microdirect yesterday and have exactly the same problem. Looking around on the net it seems there are a number of faulty palit/xpertvision 8800GT cards being reported this month i.e.
    1. No temperature reading from the card
    2. No fan control

I have not read of a fix. Just mailed palit support and microdirect to see if there is a suggestion such as a bios update etc.
Cannot believe my luck, I had just returned a bargain xfx 7900GT to ebuyer as it was a 'UDE' model with no fan control and an annoying hiss. Chose this palit/xpertvision card because of the cooler being reportedly quieter than the reference.
Oh well, fingers crossed for a solution.

Re: no temperature reading for a 8800gt

I've also bought one from microdirect and the fan is at 100% all the time.
I've modified the bios to slow down the fan to 40% but it didn't work.
Unwinder from rivatuner think that if you can't see the fan panel in rivatuner, the card doesn't have a temp sensor and a fan control.
The fan sounds like a hair dryer. I can't stand it. I think I will have to ask for a refund or for a different card on monday.
    Shame really.
Maybe that's the reason for selling them so cheap?

I've read somewhere that the xpertvision 8800gt with the gold colour heatsink don't have a temp sensor.
This may not be true though.

I've got a gold heatsink xpertvision and my temps don't show either

Noise i'm not too bothered about, it's quieter than my last system at any rate..

Re: no temperature reading for a 8800gt

I would be nice if someone with an xpertvision card could get hold of vdotool and check to see if a temp reading can be obtained. I tried but couldn't find a dl link.

Ron2256 this isn't the experience i've had with my card, mine is very quite but I have heard a lot of people with the same problems as you. I think returning the card probably is the best bet.

Re: no temperature reading for a 8800gt

    Hmm, not just me then.

XpertVision 8800GT with blue heatsink installed yesterday. Fan is flat out all the time, temperature reads "zero" according to ntune. Also flat out in Linux, so at least it is consistent.

The thing is, the fan has 4 wires going to it which only makes sense if it has PWM control.

Just had a look at the installation CD and the actual file name on my computer - it is called TBPanel.exe and the setup is in the TBPanel folder. It is a monitoring program for all Gainward Graphics cards - Google brings up lots of information.

Re: no temperature reading for a 8800gt

I found the TBPanel application just crashed with the 8800GT. Interestingly when I pulled the card out (to send back to scan under RMA) and plugged my really cheap XpertVision 8600GT back in it just worked. Same drivers, no software changes at all. Fan speed changes automatically and the TBPanel program now works rather than crashing.

Shame about the lack of 80 shaders and half the memory bandwidth, but for the 95% of my time when I am not playing games the machine is now usable!

Oh, and apparently I remembered the blue heatsink from the picture in Scan, when I pulled the card out the heatsink was actually the gold one. Is this a batch problem with the gold heatsink models?

Re: no temperature reading for a 8800gt

Just got a response from Xpertvision support in Germany, and they say they have not heard of any such problem before. They said to try changing drivers and try it in another machine, and failing that send it back to supplier.

Re: no temperature reading for a 8800gt

    Hi

Purchased a 8800gt card pallit ( same company as expertvision) identical cards.

accessed card control panel and no temp reading + fan running at 100%

tookmy rig to a.u.t direct where i got the card.

tested the card and agreed the fan running at 100% and no temp reading.

replaced the card with another pallit 8800gt and the fan was ok and the temp reading ok.

therfore only conclusion was a faulity card.

    cheers

Use Rivatuner, change the temp reading sensor to NVDiode

GPU-Z also tells you the card temp (under 'Sensors')

Seems there was a spate of dodgy Palit cards. Mine read zero under RivaTuner as well. Had the card replaced under warantee and the new one works lovely. The cards look identical, and other than the fan speed the duff card seemed to work OK.

    Nice card in the end.

I'm using an Inno3D 8800GT wind edition, looks like a custom PCB, also 0C or unreadable in every temp program there is.

Only Rivatuner with the ability to select a different GPU sensor can read my temp.
