    Cool WOW, brilliant!

just swapped out my 8800GT for my old 8400GS to see how well it would overclock.. and, OMG!!
got a 50% OC on the core speed and shader and 26% on the memory speed. and this is stable!

i really can't believe how well it has overclocked!!
and especially for £27 when i bought it

it does only have 16 shaders and 256MB mind you.. so it is still an awful card and only gets 30 - 40fps on crysis at the very lowest settings at 1280 x 1024.

Edit: could someone provide me a way of uploading photos and giving links to them on a post please?
    much love.

    edit 2: Base Score result..

    Re: WOW, brilliant!

I got an 8500GT off Ebay for under 30 quid. I can get from 459mhz to 715mhz for the core. It seems that the 8400GS follows in the same tradition!!

    Re: WOW, brilliant!

With all this overclocking talk I tried an overclock on my 8600GT. Sadly not so stellar, upped core clock from 540 to 600 (GT standard to GTS standard) and move memory clock from 800 to 810MHz. Have backed off the memory overclock after a hang playing Unreal Tournament (the really old GOTY edition) and snowing on screen. The core overclock is 11% and not that impressive, so I may just stick it back on factory default.

Still, cheap card and was good to start with so can't complain overall.

The 8500GT has a 128 bit memory interface unlike the 64 bit one in the 8400GS. The 8500GT I have has 256mb DDR2 memory clocked at 800mhz and the core is clocked at 459mhz.

    That seems a tad harsh!

Look at these cards as an upgrade from a 6200TC or 7200 and they seem rather good. For some bizarre reason people seem to compare them against the 8800GT.

well no, he's right.. they are awful!
    seriously.
even at low - medium settings on new games you never break the 50FPS barrier, truly sick cards.

would expect much better performance considering it's quite a new card and is apparently DX10 capable.. :S
