    2nd Hand Cards - Advice

Ok I'll try and keep this short and sweet.

I currently have a dual-slot 7600gt, and wish to sell that in order to upgrade and get a little extra speed for not much more. My budget is £50 which of the following seems best value, considering I want a quiet single slot graphics card that I can still game with...

    8600GT - 256mb £42
    7800 GTX - 256mb £45
    x1950 pro - 256mb £50

Any help would be much appreciated. I've missed a few gems on ebay but any help as to which would be best value for money and quiet would be gratefully received...

    Cheers,

    Ian

Possibly slower than the 7600GT in some circumstances. Avoid.

    7800 GTX - 256mb £45
Didn't know you could find these anywhere. They are a decent step up from the 7600GT, and you'll have the no driver issues by sticking with nvidia. However I remember some niggles with the GPU at the heart of this card. Not especially quiet either in single slot form.

    x1950 pro - 256mb £50
Also a decent step up from the 7600GT. Early single slot versions are quite noisy but later revisions are better. Early ones also have occasional problems with VRM overheating.

Choice between 7800GTX and x1950pro should come down to the kinds of games you play - if they are openGL based (quake/doom etc.) then go with the 7800. If they are shader heavy (fear, oblivion, splinter cell) then go with the x1950.

Well in the end I went for a x1900 from ebay for £46, so within my budget and should be a nice improvement (and hopefully will be able to turn up on all the eye candy at my res )

    Cheers for your help

I went for the x1900 gt, as it was single slot and new, so got it for £46 on ebay there seems to be a regular seller on there (micro-p) and they seem to supply businesses normally

Not too bad (It's faster than a x1950 gt - as its clocked higher and uses pretty much teh same components)

I used to have an X1900gt before I replaced it with a HD3870. It was a great card and only Crysis caused it any issues!! The X1950gt consumes less power.Did you get the revision one or two X1900gt?? The second revision has a simliar cooler to the X1950gt and X1950pro.

I'll only know when I get it, though I am assuming the latter one as the box resembles that of the most recent ones

As for crysis I don't I will be playing that for a long long time (if at all) didn't like it when I had a bash on it (using an 8800GT) I'll let you know what I think when I get it

    Cheers,
